> I The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville. December 21,1988 11 Students Write Poems for Xmas Frenchman's Bay Public School Grade 8 Poems Markus C. Templer Class 8-3 It's Christmas time in Shadybrook, Mom's cooking vegetables, vegetables, she's a good cook. Sister's getting kissed under under the mistletoe, The crowd is laughing and yelling HOOO! Turkey's for supper and being served, Brother's walking around with the hor d'oveurs. Granny's getting busy on the cranberry pie, Gramps is chilling about fishing lies. Uncle and aunt are bugging bugging in the bedroom, Watching on the tele the big Max Headroom. This Christmas is going to nn tno rvicf Old St. Nick will be put to the test Presents wil be around the Christmas tree, I'll be getting presents by the three. Jolly St. Nick will come at night, For the girls and boys who act right. Their caring parents will put out cookies and milk, Maybe Santa will give me a set to measure silt. Christmas will be a big success, It will be just like the rest. The Star I lay in darkness, In the confinement of a cardboard box. In someone's basement, Lonely and depressed, For many davs. Then I am taken out, And placed at the top. Of a beautiful pinnacle, Pointing towards heaven, To shine above all else. Parents Enjoy Performances by St. Francis of Assisi Students St. Francis of Assisi School in Newcastle held dents. Pictured here are Mrs. Pat Chidley's junior their Christmas concert on December 15. Parents en- kindergarten class singing "There Was a Little joyed many entertaining performances by the stu- Baby." Then I am taken down, And placed back in my prison, To live my lonely life, In darkness, Until next time. Christmas Thoughts By Heather Watts What do you think of when you hear Christmas day? What comes to mind, what would you say? Presents, a Christmas tree, or perhaps •Santa Claus? New toys and clothes, go ing to Grandma and Grandpa's? Grandpa's? Many forget what started it all; It was a small baby, born in a stall. His name's Jesus Christ, our wonderful Lord, And into the earth new life he poured. He changed the world from dark to Tight, Which makes us shine oh so bright. So think to yourself, when it's Christmas day, Who was found in a manger laden with hay. When you're opening gifts you're celebrating a birthday, When somebody asks you, you'll know what to say.
