CONWAY AVOIDING GRIEF Although it is more common common for the bereaved to suffer depression and alienation, alienation, to close themselves themselves off from life and the world around them, the opposite opposite behaviour can be manifest. Some people try to speed up the mourning process unnaturally or attempt attempt to avoid it through escapist pursuits. Grief runs its own peculiar peculiar cycles. Because this process is a slow one, some people become impatient impatient and try to return to normalcy' as quickly as possible, picking up where they left off with friends, relatives, lovers, and business business associates. They also may try to numb themselves themselves with alcohol, partying, partying, work, and mindless amusements. None of these diversions diversions make a loss hurt less, not in the long run, and a person who indulges in them too liberally may end up feeling guilty in the bargain. It is better not to rush grief or to suppress it. It does not work anyway. One can feel sadness even through a stupor; so let the feelings dissipate at their own speed.
