He had been ill six years. Son of Mrs. Harriet Ellis and the late Don Ellis he was the husband of Alice Ellis. He had resided at R. R. 1, Trenton Trenton the past six years, and previously resided in Bowmanville. Bowmanville. Surviving are his wife Alice, son Donald, Bowmanville, Bowmanville, Cheryl (Mrs. H. He had retired from Goodyear Canada wh -re he had been employed 25 years. He was a member of the Frankford Royal Canadian Legion. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Weaver Funeral Home, Trenton with the Reverend Watson French officiating. Pallbearers were Gene. Conservancy Awards to Be Presented rt«,; #>:*' WW The rapid growth of Durham Durham Region has destroyed many heritage buildings but plenty of others have been tastefully preserved by their owners. Some of the best will be honored when the Durham Branch of the Architectural Conservancy of Ontario makes its 1st annual Preservation Preservation Awards at a special dinner at the Old Liverpool House in Pickering on January January 28,1989. The guest speaker will be Mr. Val Swain, Q.C., a former former mayor of Kingston who is currently a governor of Heritage Canada. The public is invited to attend attend the dinner. The winners in the restoration restoration category were John and Vera Hugel of Whitby for the Flint-Anderson house, a brick and stone farm house which used to stand far back from Ross- land Road, a bit east of Anderson Anderson St. in Whitby. The category for new construction designed to complement and existing heritage building was won by the new Parish Hall of St. Thomas Anglican Church in Brooklin, a small frame church originally designed by architect Henry Langley. Langley was a prominent nineteenth century Ontario architect who designed, among others, Metropolitian United Church and the spire of St. James Cathedral, both in downtown Toronto. In designing a new parish hall for such a building, the challenge was to build something something large enough to accommodate accommodate the needs of the congregation yet not overshadow overshadow the original church. The judges felt that this goal had been admirably fulfilled. The judges were Tom Cruikshank, Editor of Canada Canada Century Home of Port Hope and Mr. Fred Roles who was Chairman of Ajax's LACAC for six years. John Alfred Walker A long time resident of Bowmanville, John Alfred Walker died peacefully after a lengthy illness at Bowmanville Bowmanville Memorial Hospital on Monday, December 12,1988. He was born on February 6, 1908 in Minden, Ontario, a son of the late John and Rebecca Rebecca Walker. Mr. Walker was a resident of Bowmanville Bowmanville for 46 years. He had also lived in Minden and Fenelon Falls, Ontario. Mr. Walker was employed with Goodyear of Canada in Bowmanville for 27 years and retired in 1970. He was married on December 21, 1935 to Verna Robertson, who survives him. Also surviving are his four children; Mrs. Lois Boston Boston and her husband Les of Toronto, Marvin and his wife Joan of Oshawa, Loyne and his wife Gloria of Hampton and Murray and his wife Verna of Oakville; also, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and two brothers; Willis Walker of Haliburton and Irvin Irvin Walker of Newmarket. rotltie and Ffed walker, y A ; 'funeral service was held at the Morris Funeral Chapel in Bowmanville on Wednesday, December 14, 1988, officiated by the Rev.
