Some of the Christmas Science Fair Projects to Be Entered in National Contest Young scientists "in the Counties of Northumberland 'and Newcastle will have an even better chance of attending attending the Canada-wide Science Fair to be held in St. John's Newfoundland in May. According to Mike Roche, Chairpérson of the Northumberland Northumberland and Newcastle Regional Science and Computer Computer Fair Committee, four projects from this area will be entered in thé national competition compared to twoprojects last year. Trie reason, said Roche, is the Fair has been upgraded to a Class B. Last year was a trial period. It was the year we broke away from the Peterborough Peterborough Fair and established established our own. Now, in our second year, our status has been upgraded by the national national committee to that of a full-fledged Class B fair." Fiona White, past Chairperson Chairperson of the Fair, said there has been a growing interest in this area in the fair, one of the reasons the committee decided to establish their own fair. That interest was evident last year when over 300 projects were entered, compared to 200 in the 1987 fair, she said. The competition is open to all students in this area, including including students with The Northumberland and Newcastle Newcastle School Board of Education, Education, students with the separate separate school system, and dii PRODUCT OF MEXICO i CANADA #1 GRADE DILL < r 0R SALADS) & cucumbers! Attending the Canada-wide Fair is "a real chance of a lifetime," she said. "Students get to meet other students from across Canada and find out more, not just about science, but about their country," she. said. It'q another way of reinforcing reinforcing a student's interest in science, she added. The regional fair will be held this year at East Northumberland Northumberland Secondary School, in Brighton, on 15 April 1989.
