I 22 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, January 4,19*9 Adam and Eve Novices En joy Christmas with Win in Oshawa by Anon. The Adam and Eve Clippers, Clippers, travelled to Oshawas Harman Arena, during their Christmas break, to participate participate in the four day Checker's Checker's Tournament. In their first game, Adam & Eve played against North Oshawa of the Oshawa Parks League. Clippers defenceman defenceman Craig Sabine, travelled into the slot position position to knock in the first goal of the game at 7:23 of the first period, assisted by Jamie Jamie Potter. That score was able to stand up until 7:23 of the third period, when the ever hard working Terry Edwards stripped his check of the puck and sent Jimmy Colder in on a breakaway, that gave the Clippers a much earned 2-0 win. On Wednesday, the Adam & Eve team took on St. Mary's of the Oshawa Church League. The Clippers Clippers had already met this' team in an exhibition game, earlier this season, and had soundly defeated them 14-4, but it was St. Mary's who sat on the scoreboard first. Finally, Finally, with 4:21 left in the first period, Scott MacKay tied the score. In the second period, the action heated up even more, as Scott MacKay gave the Clippers the lead at the 1:20 mark. St. Mary's again tied the score, with 4:58 left. But Andy Griffin was able to again give the Bowmanville team the lead with 1:50 remaining in the period. This score stood up with two minutes left in the game. A Clipper penalty gave St. Marys the man advantage and with 34 seconds left in the game the score was tied. At this point Coach Aasen put on the ice a line of Scott MacKay, Jamie Potter and Andy Griffin with Richard Anson and Craig Sabine at the points and with only 16 seconds remaining the strategy strategy paid off with Andy Griffin Griffin converting a pass from Scott MacKay to give the Clippers the win. Moving on in the tournament tournament Adam and Eve met St. Gregory's in the semi-final game. With what had been expected to be a very difficult difficult game, Adam and Eve ended i /Cff. - ■ m . ■ y t - $ ■ - . . :•, - 3 . :.*X *1 ..ft": my tm. ■ pit p&in if $ if A np A TlrwrFi» V i vM wri U. hID1tr* S I 1 : ■ il 810 , mtflUf Em f50-200g ' ,i®f •@1166 jar sHF H® ™ I REGULAROR DECAFFEINATED ■ w v. »®Sfe 'Vv A 150*175 g' insiaiii jar 1 fi'Xi tn**. •jsgg 1 . : fewm.z - \ n, .fi ' ' FLAKED' x: on uc-m it 1 h . r;:; © COUPON VALUE .28 Redpath White Sugar GRANULATED Feature price without coupon 2 kg BAG $1.17 Limit one coupon per family, one bag per coupon, coupon valid at IGA until closing Sat. First, Craig Sabine scored with 2:15 remaining in the opening period, assisted assisted by Jim Colder. There was only 24 seconds left in the second, when Scott MacKay gave the Clippers a two goal lead. Finally at 4:55 of the third, Scott MacKay from Craig Sabine and Terry Edwards, Edwards, finished all hopes of a comeback for the Oshawa team. As hoped, an all Bowmanville Bowmanville final would be played as Adam & Eve would meet Bowmanville's Jimmy's Restaurant Restaurant in the championship game. In a spirit of good sportsmanship, the two: teams met at centre ice prior' to the opening face off to' wish eacn other good luck. For the next hour, the fans in attendance were witnesses to some of the most exciting hockey played at any age level as the players from both teams played at a calibre calibre and knowledge of the game far beyond their years. _ The two teams have had; narrow wins over each other in their first two league meetings, and this game was to prove no different. The only goal of the game came midway through opening period from Jimmy's Jimmy's Brian Ball when he beat Clippers' goalie Jeremy Bowen with a screened shot, he had no chance of stop- ping. The remainder of the game was end to end. Steve Bosgraaf was robbed by Jimmy's Brandon Renton in the second. Both goal keepers keepers continued to prevent any scoring chances. The excitement excitement continued into the third period with fast offensive play and when the defence did make an occasional error, error, the goal tenders were there to prevent any further damage. Finally with 1:36 remaining in the game, Adam & Eve lifted goalie Jeremy Bowen for on extra attacker. The Clippers went with Richard Aasen, Brad Aylsworth, Andy Griffin, Scott MacKay, Jamie Potter and Craig Sabine to try to pull the game out. This line up did everything possible except score as they kept Jimmy's hemmed inside their blue line over the duration duration of the game. But to their credit, Jimmy's were able to prevent the tying goal. Congratulations go out to Jimmy's team and coaches for a fine cleanly played game. To the players not mentioned mentioned above, Jessica Andrews, Andrews, Grant Gushalak, Scott Roid and Kristy Thompson, without your work effort the team would not have ns gone as far as it did. Congratulations to you all, your coaches and parents arc proud of you.
