The game in Port Perry could have been billed as the Glen Campbell, Troy Foster show. Glen, although not scoring, assisted on all five of the Eagles'goals. Troy Foster Foster a former Eagle now with the Mojacks scored the hat- trick and had 4 assists to help Port Perry in their 8-5 victory. victory. Gareth Stone had two goals with George Pithie, Steve Flintoff and Shawn Rekker scoring singles. Shane Armstrong, George Pithie (2) and Gareth Stone collected assists. Darrin Bunker put forth a good effort effort between the pipes. Madoc Hurricanes, although although they reside at the bottom bottom of the league, have tripped up some of the top teams. The Goodyear Red Eagles went into the northern northern hamlet prepared and came away with a 7-0 victory. victory. This was one night when Scott Webster was not to be beaten, Sunday night. With Scott Webster again between the pipes, the Chiefs got off to a flying start, scoring on a break-away at the 6:15 mark, and making it 2-0 at 10:31, all in the first period. The Lake- field netminder stymied all of Bowmanvilles' 19 shots in the first. The second period was scoreless with shots on goal being 10-9 for Bowmanville. The Goodyear boys dominated dominated the play in the third, out shooting the Chiefs 15-5. Of the 5 Lakefield shots Webster had to be extra sharp on 3 of them. Paul Stainton put the Eagles Eagles on the score sheet by pounding one in low on the stick side on a set-up from Mike Gallant. One minute later, George Pithie stole the puck and counted unassisted. unassisted. At 14:58 Gareth Stone potted the winner from Gal- land and Noble. With 13 seconds seconds remaining Stainton cleared the zone and sent the puck the length of the ice for the insurance marker and his second goal of the game. Wing Tips In my last communication communication I mentioned several reasons reasons why the future looks bright ahead for this edition of the Eagles. I feel quite safe in my prediction because there is no doubt the boys are getting together and it is obvious obvious from the Lakefield -■ ' 1. i9Vrf.fi. V. game that everyone came to play. The senseless penalties were at a minimum and the effort was excellent. Keep up the hard work, boys. The Eagles journey to Lindsay's new ice pad Friday Friday night January 13 for an 8:30 game and some of them, will play in the All-Star game in Port Perry Saturday night. We host the high flying flying Wellington Dukes on Sunday and travel to Ajax Tuesday January 17 for an 8:00 game. With 13 games left it is important to finish as high as possible to ensure a greater number of home games. Your support will help the boys give their best effort. Their first game was against a Cobourg team sponsored by Dutch Oven. During this close contest, Hutton took the lead three times only to let the Cobourg team tie it up each time. Most of the play was in the Cobourg Cobourg end but Hutton's players were haying trouble connecting on passes and carrying the puck. The Cobourg Cobourg netminders made the Hutton shooters' jobs even more difficult. For the only first-period goal, Les Me Cray carried the puck along the right side boards and then lost the Cobourg Cobourg player tailing him by quickly cutting left and positioning positioning himself in front of the net. A shot in the far corner corner then gave Hutton the lead. Colin Galinski earned an assist. In the second period, Cobourg Cobourg capitalized on a Hutton Hutton defensive error to tie the game on a breakaway goal. Jeff Hughes, on an assist by Les McCray, stuffed the puck in from behind the net to put the Truckers into the lead again. Then a Hutton penalty proved costly when Cobourg evened the score in the last minute of the second period. In the third period, Les McCrory made a beautiful pass from behind the net to Mike Ferguson in the clear who put it into the open side. Cobourg then tied the score again to send the game into sudden-death overtime. During the first overtime period, the Truckers again dominated the play but were unable to connect for any goals. The second overtime period required that the teams play without goal- tenders. Within two minutes, Peter Schoep, assisted by Les McCrory, notched the winning winning goal. This victory advanced advanced the team to the "A" semi-finals. Particularly noticeable noticeable during the game was the forechecking in the corners by Ben Medd as well as his positioning himself near the goal mouth to create some scoring opportunities. opportunities. Three hours later, Hutton Transporters were on the ice again to play a Port Hope team sponsored by Arby's. In this 10-3 blowout victory, the team showed a great improvement improvement over tneir first game. Ryan Stainton made many good saves for the Truckers. Curtis Courneyea led the scoring attack with three goals ana three assists as well as Jeff Hughes with three goals and two assists. Paul Hollingsworth set up Brad Read who had positioned positioned himself in the slot and then scored on a well placed, high wrist shot. Paul also earned two other assists. Defenceman Ni all O'Donnell's style of going forward after the puck earned him a goal. Mike Ferguson Ferguson made some nice moves to get himself into a good position to tuck one nigh into the net. Les McCrory McCrory also flipped in a rebound initially stopped by the goal- tender. Assists were also earned by Colin Galinski, Greg Knox, Brad Read and Peter Schoep (2). One hour later the Truckers Truckers found themselves on the ice again to compete for the 'A' championship against the home town team. The Truckers opened the scoring early in tne second period when Peter Schoep skated around two Colborne defencemen defencemen and put the puck behind the goaltender. Colborne evened it up on their second period power play goal. Early in the third period, Colborne scored the winning goal. The Truckers played very well against an aggressive Colborne ■ team and out-played and out-shot them but were unable to get anymore past their goaltender. goaltender. Peter Schoep received the MVP trophy for the 'A' Finalists Finalists while the Colborne goal- tender earned the MVP trophy trophy for the'A' Champions. Each of the Truckers went home with a trophy to remind remind them of the great effort they put forth in this game. Triple F January 6,89.
