The weatherman has been very co-operative this winter with beautiful sunny days and we had about 80 for lunch which consisted of scalloped potatoes and a good variety of meat dishes, homemade tea biscuits, cake with cream topping, tea and coffee, which were quickly consumed as every one brought a good appetite with them. We had 13 tables of euchre, euchre, scores were: Ladies high - Bertha Hur- ren - 77, Norma Cochrane 76, Ann Taylor 52. Men's high - Bruce Bright 86, Les Taylor 82, Archie Hoy 39. There were 4 special draws. Unfortunately the writer did not get these winners' winners' names. Our club gave a donation to the Kidney Foundation, also a donation to the Barrett Barrett Fund. Stiles The Newcastle Busters Oldtimers hosted the D&B Hawks on Sunday, March 13th and came away with a 10-6 win over the Hawks. Busters outscored the Hawks 4-2 in the 1st and 3rd periods and the 2nd period period sow Busters and Hawks score 2 each. Tony Jones led Busters with 4 goals and 2 assists while George Sainsbury had 1 goal and 4 assists. Sandy MacDonald had 2 goals ana 1 assist. Bob Stiles and Gary Woodbeck with 1 goal and 1 assist each. Jim Jones collected collected 2 assists. Jerry Dost had 1 goal with Doug Cole getting 1 assist. Mike Bryant led D&B Hawks with 2 goals and 1 assist with Raye West getting 1 goal, 2 assists. Dean Cox had 2 goals, Les Bielowski scored 1 goal and Richard Beacock, Barry Hazelton, John Talotti and Glen Murphy Murphy all had one assist each. The first period saw the D&B Hawks draw first blood with Mike Bryant scoring his 1st of the game at 9:42 assisted by Richard Beacock and Raye West. Busters tied it up at 10:59 on an unassisted tally by George Sainsbury. Busters went ahead 2-1 on Tony Jones 1st goal at 12:55 as-, sisted by Doug Cole. Sandy MacDonald MacDonald put Busters ahead 4- Big Win for All Canadians On Saturday, March 11 Bowmanville's All Canadian Novices defeated Adam & Eve's "Clippers" by a score of 2-1. In the first period the action was fast with Clippers' Clippers' goalie being tested early early by Canadians' centres, Brad Chapman and Chris Watson. Equally at the other other end, "The Snake" Jake Davis came up big with some glove saves to keep the Clippers off the score sheet ana end the period in a scoreless tie. The 2nd began with Canadians Canadians defensive core and clearing the puck well and tying up the Clippers' sharp- shi shooters at the blue line. Defensemen Defensemen Clayton Kohn , Chris McKenzie, Jeff Lock- wood, Robbie MacChayne and Erik Griffin all played a strong game determined to play their postions well. Then at the 13:11 mark "The Rocket" Ronnie Smith out muscled two Adam and Eve players for the puck and skated down the right wing and made a picture perfect pass to Danny Katsikis, breaking over the blue line. After beating the Clippers' defenseman, Danny fed the puck to Brad Chapman in the slot who made no mistake mistake and banged it home. Two minutes later Robbie MacChayne made an excellent excellent pass to Chris Watson who using Bryan Loweiy as a decoy on a 2 on 1, caught the short side and gave the Canadians a 2-0 lead. Bryan Lowery and Adam Powell's hard skating and comer work kept the Clippers from setting setting up in their own end and created excellent scoring chances for their team. With one more period to ClippersLose On Weekend by Jim Potter The Adam & Eve Clippers Clippers played a pair of games over the past week. On Monday, Monday, the Clippers travelled to Newcastle to continue their rivalry with Jimmy's Restaurant Hornets. During the season these two teams have played many fine, close games of hockey against each other. This game was no exception, as far as the excitement factor, but Jimmy's Jimmy's took advantage of their chances in posting a 6-3 win. In the first period, Jimmy's Jimmy's took a three goal lead before the game was eight minutes old, with Joel Osborne Osborne notching two and Mark Ganhad one. Wade Worsley gave Jimmy's a four goal lead with the only goal of the second period. The Clippers got onto the score board with a goal by Jim Colder at 1:58 of the third period, but Brian Ball and Jeremy Sanders scored a goal each to squash any hopes of an Adam & Eve comeback. With time running running down, Scott Mackay scored a pair of goals for the Clippers, the second assisted by Richard Aasen, to make the score a little more respectable. respectable. On Saturday afternoon the Clippers took to the ice to face off against All Canadians. Canadians. After a scoreless first period, Brad Chapman gave the Canadians the lead. Just over three minutes later, Chris Watson gave his team a two goal margin with the eventual game winner. Adam & Eve finally got one by Joke Davis, on a solo effort effort by Andy Griffin at 5:33. Adam & Eve had their chances during the remainder remainder of the period and through the final period, but because of some poor shooting shooting and poor team work, the comeback didn't happen. Clippers' goalie Jeremy Bowen was back in form, keeping his team in the game, and Brad Aylsworth and Richard Ansen ployed their usual reliable and unselfish unselfish game, go, the boys knew their work was cut out for them. The Canadians' forwards all skated hard and back- checked superbly, showing their excellent defensive ability. The Clippers pressed hard for the tying goal, but All Canadian defensive work horses, Robbie MacChayne (with his new hair cut) and Erik Griffin, held their own in front of the net and cleared the puck from their zone. The Canadians ended the game with a 2-1 victory and an excellent team effort. The Canadians now will enter the round robin playoffs with their first game against V&G Thursday Thursday night. Mike Bryant scored his 2nd of the game at 18:31 assisted by Glen Murphy to complete the scoring and a 10-6 victory for Busters. Mike Johnston was in goal for Busters. Dave Forrester looked after the goaltending duties for the Hawks. Busters' next game will be March 19, 1989 against the Hockin Oldtimers from Bowmanville. Tara Amott, a member of the Newcastle Aquatic Club, recently set some new records in a swim meet held at Port Hope. Tara received eight firsts in eight events during the February 18 and February 19 meet. In five of those races, she set a new pool record for swimmers eight years of age and under. Tara is shown here during a recent practice session at the Town of Newcastle Fitness Centre.
