Bowmanville, March là. liiitu Esso Drops Early Morning Game to Hutton February 2Gth, the 401 Esso Hockey team had an early (7.00) morning game against Hutton Transport. Esso went down to a 6-1 defeat defeat at the hands of the home team. 401 came out strong in the first and really looked like a threat to Hutton Hutton but then part way through the second we started started to slacken off defensively. Hutton tallied first with 4:33 left in the first, then Esso came back at 12:30 of the second to tie it up on a goal by Ronnie Loger assisted assisted by Aaron Pudlis and Ryan Pingle. Esso tried hard but everything we did seemed to be wrong as Hutton Hutton put in five more unanswered unanswered goals to finish the game. On Sunday, March 5th, T-Mac played host to 401 Esso at the 8:00 a.m. game. Esso once again had a taste of bitter defeat as T-Mac downed us 4-3. 401couldn't seem to get their' strategy working among their thirteen thirteen teams mates, but T- Mac had no problems with only eight players available. David Chambers put Esso on the board at 9:32 of the first assisted by Bryan Bei- tle and Craig Schumacher. T-Mac closed out the first by tying it up. At 13:21 of the second Peter Gadd put 401 in the lead once more. With less than four minutes left T-Mac evened it up again. Kevin Grootendorst gave Esso the leading edge at 9:58 of the third on a pass from David Moriarity and David Drummond. We held them off until the 2:00 mark when the opposing team notched what was to be the winner. Scoring all four of T- Mac's goals was Jason Colder. Colder. Once again on Sunday, March 5th this time at 5:00 p.m., wé met the Ontario Hydro team. The final score of this game was a nerve wracking, nail biting 3-3 tie. It was a test of wills until the 3:57 mark of the first when Wesley Thompson opened our books assisted by David Chambers. Hydro tied it up with 50 seconds remaining remaining in the period, then at 8:25.,of the second went ahead. Kevin Grootendorst picked up David Mortality's pass then tucked it away at the 2:15 mark. With 42 seconds seconds remaining in the period period Hydro once more broke the tie sending out the information information that if Esso wanted to tie or win they would have to really buckle down and play hard. The third period period was a real battle, Kevin Grootendorst finally got the tying marker at the 49 second second mark from David Chambers Chambers and Wesley Thompson. Our netminder Steve Sargent Sargent really had his work cut out for him in this game. The Esso boys hope that you will soon be back, Cameron. We had our third game this week on Tuesday, March 7th, against J&J Sharpening. The end result of this hard fought game was a 2-2 tie. Esso showed great determination right from the first face off to the final buzzer. David Chambers Chambers got Esso under way at 6:48 of the first on a pass from Ryan Pingle. J&J made it a neck and neck race at the 12 minute mark of the second. The tie stood until the 10:10 mark of the third at which time 401 had a penalty shot called against them while J&J capitalized on the one on one situation. It took Esso a few minutes before they slipped it into overdrive to even the score at 2 apiece, Ronnie Leger from Wesley Thompson. Steve Sargent warden off J&J's onslaught to keep the remainder of the game a tie. March 12th, it was 401 Esso vs Hutton once again. Esso trimmed their goals against deficit by two this week (4-1) as compared to the outcome of a couple of weeks ago (6-1). Steve Sargent Sargent was really sharp in net, holding us in there when the going got rough at times. Hutton notched one in the first and two in the second before Esso got on the board. Wesley "Digger" Thompson was at his favourite spot near the far corner of the net just waiting for that all important pass. Then lo and behold! Craig Schumacher sent a pass to Ronnie Leger. Ronnie in turn sent the pass on to "Digger" who tucked it neatly away for Esso. Early in the third Hutton scored the final goal of the game. Good try, Esso! G> COUPON VALUE .69 Pepsi-Cola i OR DR.
