Welcome home to Miss Denyse Glasbergen who has just returned from an 8-day trip with Lindsay - I.E. Weldon Weldon High School's rugby team to Swansea, Wales. They left Monday, March 13 from Lindsay by bus to Hamilton Airport where they boarded a Nationaire Airplane for the London, England Gatwick Airport ana transferred to a plane to Swansea Wales. Denyse stayed with a friend, Claire McPherson, who spent two weeks last year with the Glasbergen family as an exchange exchange student from Wales. As to be expected, the daily menu was somewhat different different from our local style: fish was one of their staple foods. Unlike our Canadian style, liquid refreshments, tea etc. were served not with the meal but following it. Roast beef, another staple, was excellent. excellent. Among the places visited were the local beaches - too cold yet for swimming, with the daytime temperatures in the very low 70°P. The exchange rate of a pound is equivalent to $2.18 Canadian Canadian and provided excellent shopping. Denyse was able to pick up a fine pair of black patent leather shoes for $8.00 Canadian. Ansonn Bryant, 15, found this long-distance balloon in his back yard on Stewart Road. The attached tag revealed that the balloon had been sent by students at Tiffin Tiffin School in Chillicothe, Ohio. The Bryants called the school, spoke to a teacher, and learned that they were not the only recipients of an express balloon. Someone in North Dakota received one of the students' messages as well. Nothing contagious, but it does spread like wild fire among the distaff side at this time of the year. Yes siree Bub, the maitredee (denoting the female gender) of our Malconia menagerie has got that glint in her eye again. No not that one - I said a glint not a gleam - easily differentiated by one who has worn the confines of marital harness as long as we have. _A "glint" can be best described as that look of col d icy appraisal like one gal gives another when she (the latter) comes out in a brand new Easter outfit, or a wrestler looks at a prospective prospective opponent, looking for possible flaws to be taken advantage of later. We much prefer the "gleam"; it may, or may not, it memory serves us rightly, have a hidden connotation of sexual promise and an undercurrent undercurrent of better things to come. Guess I'd better take _ some Geritol just in case it happens. But oack to more mundane things e.g. "the glint." It is usually identified with or considered a prelude to Spring Fever. The little woman suddenly starts staring staring into space, like at the celling, or remote comers of the room, a look of faint,if not total disgust radiates her facial features. Then you know you're in for it. She's just acquired "Decoration Fever" . No longer is man's house his castle. It has just been transformed by the eye of the beholder to an ancient mausloeum. That little spiders web in that dark remote corner has suddenly become a nest of tarantulas. The walls which have become a nice tattletale tattletale gray or beige for the past 15 years or so, are suddenly suddenly overnight, utterly disgusting. disgusting. That little area of panelling that fails to match the rest of the room is suddenly suddenly obscene. But the biggest challenge is that wall of grass. What to do with it? Rent a steam- jenny and peel it off? Or should we invite all the pot smokers in the area to come for a free smoke in? Or most probably just cover it up with something and hide it for ever and ever. So, the serenity of our humble household threatens to be topsy turvied within the not too distant future. Paste and paper everywhere everywhere is the prognostication for the future for Malconia. Already we feel a severe case of Bursites coming on in our shoulders which just might if properly nurtured, make it impossible to contribute contribute to the "make-work" project.
