10 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc, April 12,1989 News from M.J. Hobbs SQUAWKS from the HAWKS The students of MJ. Hobbs Sr. Public school are back to work after a greatly appreciated March Break. We are planning to stage a drama production of "Tom Sawyer". Anyone is welcome and tickets will be available in the near future and can be purchased at MJ. Hobbs!!! The grade sevens enjoyed their trip to Camp Tawingo. Grouping for the grade eights' trip to Ottawa in May is taking place as they are looking forward to it. The student council has been running smoothly under under the leadership of our new president, Carolyn Bar- key and Vice President Darcy Darcy Rowe. Mrs. Smith and Mrs. J. M. Smith have also helped us a great deal. Approaching Approaching quickly is the upcoming upcoming grade eight graduation graduation to be held at Bowmanville High School in June. Members of the band, choir, and other exhibitors are preparing their work which will be displayed during during Education Week at MJ.Hobbs or at Courtice Secondary School. The band will play at least two pieces titled "Brian's Song", and " Colonial March". Others could possibly follow. Jean Shank, a resident of Hobbs, recently competed in the Legion public speaking contest, placing 3rd in her division. Way to go, Jen!!! Jen placed 1st in our school competition. Hobb's very own Think- bowl team also competed recently recently in Cobourg. Actually we entered two teams this year. Members of team 'A' are Natosha Dower, Alicia Fogarty, Carolyn Barkey ana Nicky Watt. Members of team 'B' are Todd McKinnon, McKinnon, Jarrett Aus, Colin Sharp and Andrew Forbes. They would like to wish the other teams luck and congratulate congratulate the winning teams. Another event taking place in May or June is the Track and Field Day including including all senior public schools. The Pines, Bowmanville Senior, and Hobbs! Signing off from MJ. Host Bantam Hockey Match On Saturday, April 8th, 10 games were played at the new Bowmanville Recreational Recreational Complex in the Garritano Garritano Bros., Bantam Select Hockey Tournament. The 1st game between Bowmanville Snowden Selects Selects and Belleville, Bowmanville Bowmanville won 5-4 with goals by Craig Forsey 2 and 1 assist, assist, Kevin Farrow 1 goal, 2 assists, Chris Forsey 1 goal, Shaun McFadyen 1 goal, Ryan Becker 2 assists, Jack Bentley, Eric Smith, Brad Hargest with 1 assist. M.V7P. was Jeff Pickell. The 2nd game between Rosedale and Markham was won by Rosedale 5-2. Next Hamilton Dofasco beat West Hill 4-3. In the 4th game Hamilton Hamilton Mt. Blues defeated London London Red Circle 4-2. The second round started with Markham defeating Belleville 2-1. Bowmanville met Rosedale Rosedale in the 6th game and were outscored 7-5. For Bowmanville, Jeremy Tymo- shik and Eric Smith each had 2 goals and 1 assist each. Jeff Pickell added the other goal. Assists went to Craig Forsey, Bruce Bum- stead, Chris Forsey, Shawn McFadyen. M.V.P. of the game for Bowmanville was Eric Smith. West Hill defeated London London in the 7th game and Dofasco Dofasco won over Hamilton Mt. 6-4 in the 8th game. In the "B" Championship Game Peter Hughes led West Hill to a 5-4 win over Markham Selects. The "A Championship" was won by Rosedale over Dofasco 7-3. Mike Petrie was M.V.P for Rosedale and deserved the M.V.P. for the entire tournament. On hand was Mat Garritano Garritano to present the A & B Championship Trophies to Rosedale and West Hill.
