Several have been found and messages have been returned from as close as Newtonville to as far away as Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Our choir placed first in the Warkwortn Music festival festival on May 1st. Congratulations Congratulations to all involved. Mr. Kuipers from North- cutt Elliott Funeral Home came to speak at our Assembly Assembly on May 12th. He is holding holding again this year his poem writing contest about his fountain at the funeral home. One primary poem and a junior poem are selected selected from all poems submitted. submitted. The lucky contestants will be awarded a plaque for their efforts. On Friday, May 19th our whole school will see a play called "Nightlight" at our school. DID YOU KNOW THAT- Illness is a fact of live at school. Stuart Candler recalled recalled some of the dread diseases diseases that stalked the school f rounds at the time of the rst world war. "I started at Central School around 1915 but missed a year because of illness. illness. Around 1917 there was a smallpox epidemic in Canada. Every pupil had to be .vaccinated but I got a note from the doctor Slowing Slowing me to attend school without the needle as my heart was too weak from being being sick. "Most children had a terrible terrible reaction. They had sore and swollen arms and were ill for days. They wore a red cloth sewin on the sleeve.of their jacket. Looking out over the schoolyard at recess all you saw was a sea of red arm bands. "A couple of years later the flu epidemic hit. It was blamed on soldiers returning returning from the war in Europe.
