The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanvillc, May 17.1989 Toddlers Celebrate Birthdays Hobnobbing with Harvey Renovation Blues We've been tricked, deceived deceived and in general just plain outsmarted....again! As almost any married man will publicly admit, under torture, and respond in hand, - "what else is new". We were just quietly patting patting ourselves on the back that our stint at interior decorating decorating had run its course following the announcement from our Domestic Engineer that "the Room" was at last finished to her satisfaction. Our moment of glory was short lived! She then threw a curve ball when she announced, announced, - no pussy-footing around to provide any opportunity opportunity for veto that we were now going to move into the My name is Lisa Noel Schoonderbeek. On May 6, 1989 big sister Jill, Mommy and Daddy (Sharon and John) had a 1st birthday party for me. I had lots of fun as my grandparents Harold and Elda Avery, Oshawa, and John and Cora Schoonderbeek, Enniskillen, Enniskillen, and aunts, uncles, cousins and friends were at our house. Even our moustache and sideburns are white (as usual). As we stare fultilely into our crystal ball there appears appears no relief in sight. As the ankle bone is connected to the leg bone and the leg bone is connected ad fincton to the variety of other bony appendages, likewise is our living room connected to innumerable innumerable other rooms including including a stairway upstairs i a whole which opens up i of r< ile new vista of rooms just crying out for the "Master's Touch. Obviously, we are not going going to get any summer this year - just a continued succession succession of sub-zero weather interspersed with intermittent intermittent rain and snow till winter winter again sets in next September. September. Normally, at this time of year, we can count on the cooperation cooperation of Mother Nature to provide us with a fitting excuse to vacate the domicile domicile for a more seemly outdoor outdoor life eg. the lawn needs cutting, the garden needs planting, hoeing, etc, etc. Not so this year. Either the grass is 1/2 an inch high in the windward side or 4 inches inches high on the leeward. The garden which was ready to plant two weeks ago has reverted reverted to a muddy mess. Any attempt to extricate ourselves from K.P. duty by simulating physical disabilities disabilities fails to pass the test. To pleaded insanity proved to be equally unconvincing - the Light of our Life declares declares with some fervor that she has been coping with our symptoms of this "disease" "disease" reasonably successfully successfully every since she said "I ao". The future indeed looks bleak, I'm stymied. Probably next fall I'll come staggering out of the house, paintbrush in hand, bristles worn down to the hands, with bloodshot eyes, unkempt hair hanging down to drospy shoulders and still unshaven. In fact that pretty well describes our present condition with little hope for improvement. Bowmanville W.I.
