Program Co- mm Date of Publication: May 31,1989 Hospital Plans to Hire Part-time Chaplain in '90 Memorial Hospital Bowmanville Bowmanville expects to hire a part-time chaplain next year. Doug Frost, director of human resources at Memorial Memorial Hospital, said this week that the chaplain's role will be a half-time position and it will not be filled until the hospital has added an additional additional 32 beds to its current complement of 89. At that time, the hospital will receive provincial funding funding for the position and will be able to hire the new staff member. The proposal for a halftime halftime chaplain was announced announced during the annual meeting of the Pastoral Services Services Advisory Committee to Memorial Hospital. The meeting took place on Tuesday, Tuesday, May 30, at Strathaven/ Strath Manor, in Bowmanville. Bowmanville. In a report to the committee, committee, Mr. Frost also gave an update on the hospital construction construction and renovation program. Ho stated that the first renovated corridor in the existing existing building will bo opened sometime next week. This will provide space for health records, administrative administrative offices and n new board room. The newly completed corridor and adjoining offic es are in the .former Maternity Maternity Ward on the north side of the hospital complex. The new wing to the east of the existing hospital is scheduled to be completed in September of this year, at which point many of the existing existing beds in the older wing will he moved to the new building so that renovations can continue. Memorial Hospital is expected expected to have its additional 32 beds functioning by as early as May or June of next year. The part time chaplain would probably join the staff then. Guest speakers at the annual annual meeting of the Pastoral Services Advisory Committee Committee were Major Ralph Godfrey, Godfrey, director of chaplaincy at Grace Hospital in Toronto and Major Sam Brinton, the Toronto Grace Hospital's executive executive director.
