Two hundred and eighty people had come to attend the inaugural Oshawa- Whitby-Newcastle Ducks Unlimited fund raiser. When the evening was over $45,000.00 had been raised for wetland conservation. The event was held at St. George's Ukranian church hall, Lviv Pavilion. While the banquet was being served ana after, a combination combination auction and raffle was conducted. Some of the big ticket.items were a decorative decorative carving of a bluejay, donated donated by the featured artist Mr. Ron Lace was knocked down at $2200.00, while a .commemorative shotgun sponsored by New-Way Plumbing of Oshawa brought $1800.00. A landscape landscape package sponsored by Wiggans Landscaping of Bowmanville and Henry Buildall of Oshawa brought $1500.00. Two limited edi tion prints, Moonlight Retreat Retreat by Terry Redlin and sponsored by Manville Alu minum of Scarborough, and China Gold a 2 print artist proof by Michael Dumas, Peterborough, Peterborough, brought $1500.00 and $1300.00 respectively. respectively. An English springer pup sponsored by North End Interiors and Springville Springers raised $825.00. All the items used in the auction/raffle were either donated or sponsored by businesses and citizens from the Oshawa-Whitby- Newcastle area. John Hal- minen, chairman of this event, commented on the effort effort by praising and thanking thanking the community for the merchandise, the financial sponsorships, the time, and the effort that they provided for this year's successful banquet. He added "This is a token of our good faith towards towards the resources we've inherited. We have a lot more to do in the years ahead if we are going to preserve preserve the wetlands of our country and the natural wealth that is found there. But on days like this, I really really believe we can do it! I know that people who worked on this event are already already beginning to plan for next year."
