The Canadian Statesman. I'owmanville. .1 une 7. 198!) Guides Celebrate 50th Anniversary Brownies and Guides Honored at Meetings e By Karen Thompson HAPPY BIRTHDAY GUIDING! Yes it's true. We are celebrating 50 years of Guiding in Bowmanville. Even though it is the 1st and 2nd Brownies that are actually celebrating, it is a special year for Guiding in Bowmanville. As an organization organization we take pride in knowing that it Has been here for 50 years. There are special events being planned by the two units during the year. At the Heritage Week arade, we were able to ave Mrs. Courier who was a Guider in the 1st Brownies in 1947 and 1948, and Irene Whitney who was the District District Commissioner in 1956. Guiding would like to thank these two women for participating participating in the parade with us. Many thanks to all the girls ana leaders that also walked in the parade, A special special thank you also goes to the girls and leaders that acted as the colour guard for the raising of the Heritage Week Flag. Now that Guiding is winding down for the summer, summer, many ceremonies are taking place in the various units. Many girls have worked very hard to accomplish accomplish each of the honours that they will be given. Brownies will be flying-up to Guides and have earned their wings; Guides will have earned their All-Round Cords and advanced to Pathfinders Pathfinders and Pathfinders will have earned the highest honour in Guiding - the Canada Cord. To all those that have earned these, may we congratulate you all and wish you every continued success in Guiding in the future. future. , On May 30th, the 6th Brownies, 4th Guides and 1st Pathfinders held a pot- luck supper with their parents. parents. Six Brownies earned thèir wings and flew up to Guides during a candlelight ceremony. Two Guides earned their All-Round Cords and a special ceremony ceremony was performed for these two girls. Alter these ceremonies, ceremonies, an advancement ceremony was done for six Guides and an enrollment was done for one Pathfinder. For all those that attended attended this night, it was very nice to see the bridging of the units and see how a girl can progress from Brownies to Pathfinders and earn very special honours along the way. For all the leaders, it was a very gratifying but yet sad time for them. It is diffi-' cult to say good-bye to a girl that you have worked with and grown with during her time in your unit but yet it is gratifying to see her go on in Guiding and reach new plateaus as she grows.
