Many Forms of Exercise Demonstrated at Town Hall During Participaction Day by John Finlay Tillage 2000 compares conservation with conventional conventional tillage practices on demonstration sites on 40 Ontario farms to evaluate and develop conservation farming systems for specific soil types, climatic area and different farming operations! operations! Here is a summary of results results from the 1988 Tillage 2000 Progress Report: Conservation no-till grain crop and winter wheat yields in 1988 were about two-to-four per cent higher than conventional tillage yields. Average production costs (dollars per bushel) were three-to-eight per cent lower for no-tillage compared compared to moldboard or minimum minimum tillage treatments. - Net return (profits) to land, management and risk Famous BALDERSON MEDIUM CHEDDAR CHEESE HWY. 2 BETWEEN AJAX & WHITBY OPENS THUR. That is a saving saving of 30-50 per cent for the no-till system/ rllsing an alternate method method to predict soil loss, erosion erosion from one specific, conventional conventional plowing site was estimated at 45 tons per acre greater than from the no-till system. Evaluation of this method is ongoing. The report also compared the relationship between soil types and conservation tillage system performance. For all crops, the results from the previous three years, showed no-till and minimum tillage produced the best yields on sandy and loam soils, with comparative yields on fine silts, but both conservation systems had reduced yields on fine- textured clay soils. The Bowmanville Chapter Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Eastern Star (OES) is one of the many branches in Ontario that has helped provide an $80,000 donation for a new dental clinic that is providing providing specialized care for cancer cancer patients. The new dental clinic is the focus of a unique program program to prepare special dental dental splints for patients before before they undergo major jaw surgery for cancer. Known as "Maxillo-facial protheses," protheses," these splints are inserted inserted at the time of surgery and the patients are able to immediately eat, drink, speak and interact socially. Usually they have to wait several months for the surgical surgical site to heal before fitting the patient with a dental device device to replace the parts of the jaw which are removed, so this is considered a big improvement.' Initially, the project started about two years ago when Marie Woodward, Worthy Grand Matron for Ontario during 1987-88, ap proached the Princess Margaret Margaret Hospital seeking an idea for a fund-raiser for her year as head of the 224 Ontario Ontario Chapters. The room is dedicated in memory of sister Mabel L MacKereith, who died in 1986, and was the first and only Canadian woman to be elected as head of the international international level of the O.E.S. The esteem in which Sister MacKereith was held is reflected reflected in the tremendous lort received from the members. This is the second largest amount raised in the 74 years OES has existed in Ontario and the single largest largest donation ever received from a service organization. It represents an outstanding gift from the 35,000 OES members of Ontario. " The Order of the Eastern Star is an international fraternal fraternal Organization for both men and women.
