NEW SUPERINTENDENT -- John Reid, the current principal at Waverley Public School, has been appointed Superintendent of Instruction Instruction (Special Servicés) with the Northumberland Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education. Mr. Reid began his teaching career in 1966 as a classroom teacher for the Northumberland/ Newcastle Board and became an elementary vice principal in 1970. He has served as an elementary school principal since 1974. EDUCATORS HONORED -- The Council for Exceptional Children honored several teachers teachers and other educators from the local separate and public school boards during a meeting on Sunday, June 11, in Peterborough. Among those honored were Anne McHenry, who serves as interdepartmental head of Special Education at East Northumberland Secondary School; and Mary Gunn, administrative officer of special education for the Northumberland and Newcastle Board of Education. Others honored were: Charlene Ashmore, Norm Forget, Bev Assinck, Therese Harman, and Len Taal LOCAL STUDY NEEDS YOUR HELP -- The Hospice Durham Steering Committee is seeking seeking help from anyone who has recently experienced experienced a death in the family. The committee is conducting a survey to determine how it can better meet the needs of both the terminally ill patient and his or her family. There is already a survey under way among physicians and health care providers who are being asked to offer input on issues related to providing palliative palliative care in Durham. This event takes place at the Orono Arena, commencing at noon, under the direction of auctioneer Frank Stapleton. Dozens of items have been donated to the auction. TASK FORCE ON PORT GRANBY -- The Task Force meeting to discuss the disposal of nuclear nuclear waste contained at Port Granby and other Ontario sites will be coming to Bowmanville next week. There will be a meeting of the Siting Task Force on Wednesday, June 28th, at the Town 1-Iall, Bowmanville. It starts at seven p.m. You may recall that the task force is seeking a municipality which will voluntarily accept the wastes and work towards the development of a permanent disposal facility.
