President Frank Parise welcomed Mr. Tom Little, Manager of the local branch of the National Trust, who presented the trophy, and thanked him for the generous donation his company had made to the club. As Phyllis MacDonald, the winning skip said, it was a joy to play on such a lovely day ana in such pleasant surroundings; winning was just a bonus!. MacDonald scored 4 on the first end of 1 the game against Mary Cappler and Lottie White of Port Hope, maintained the lead throughout and totalled 16 for a comfortable win. This matched her against Freida Highfield and Effie Hezzel- wood of Oshawa who scored 17 against Muriel Scott and Mary James of Bowmanville. Bowmanville. The game between MacDonald MacDonald and Highfield was the closest in the tournament: tournament: the former seemed to have it "in the bag" when she was leading 12-3 after four ends but Highfield reduced reduced the deficit to 11-14 in tho 8th end. MacDonald then scored two and, despite Highfield's single on each of the last three ends, hung on to win 16-14. In the third game MacDonald MacDonald was paired with Linda Linda Chuchra and Win Forsyth Forsyth of Oshawa who had scored wins over two Bowmanville Bowmanville teams - Betty Cameron and Kathy McCal- lum in the first game (16-6) and Doris Wollstein and Marjorie Carswell in the second second (13-5). At the latter the competitors enjoyed sandwiches and cookies provided by their hostesses. Our next tournament will be on Sunday, July 16, when 16 teams of mixed triples will compete for the magnificent magnificent Goodyear Trophy which was first donated to the club in 1925. Gale After a two-week layoff from league play, the Cowan Pontiac Junior Soccer Team came away from their trip to Scarborough with a total team effort and a very satisfying satisfying win. From the beginning beginning of the game to the final whistle, Darlington. controlled controlled the tempo and dominated dominated in almost every facet of the match. John Lawrence and Brad Rickard both just missed scoring off impressive runs in the first 15 minutes of play. Darlington continued to press forward and Mike Ruthard headed a comer kick from Carmine Capelli inches past the upper left corner of the Malvern net. Persistent pressure soon paid off when Lenny Gibson headed the ball on to Brad Rickard who cracked home the first goal of the game past the helpless goalkeeper. goalkeeper. ' Minutes later, Darlington went up 2-0 on an excellent passing play. Brad Rickard booted a fine kick to Mike Ruthard who played a well- placed ball to forward Danny Danny Flint. Danny beat his man to the ball and slipped it past the goalkeeper into the back of the net. The game appeared bo be totally in Darlington's control control and they were unlucky not to be up more goals after Kevin Mills shot from 30 yards out, forcing the goalkeeper goalkeeper into an acrobatic save. Kevin was rewarded minutes later when he leaped high into the air to head a well placed comer kick from Carmine Capelli, into the back of the net. John Lawrence almost added added to the score when he hit the crossbar off a first-time volley just before the half ended. At the start of the second half, Malvern came on strong for the first few minutes minutes of the game and forced goalkeeper Adam Carter into a good save. However, that was as much in the way of dangerous opportunities as Malvern would get. The defense, anchored by Jonathan Jonathan Goad and Lance Halu- ka, kept constant pressure on the Malvern forwards and gave them no room in which to make any penetrating penetrating advances at net. The midfield of Brad Rickard, Mike Ruthard and Dayne Lycett started to take over, dominating the centre of the field. Darlington made the score 4-0 when the forward duo of Kevin Mills and Dan Flint took apart the defence of the opposition. Kevin spun around his man, controlling controlling the ball and then played it ahead to Dan. He beat his man on the turn and while shielding the ball from his opponent, drove his Lioness Girls Undefeated in League Play The Lioness Girls remain undefeated in the Durham Girls' Soccer League by downing Whitby Canadian Tire 8 to 0 with goals being scored by Sarah Couch (4), Carolyn Watters (1), Tracy Michaud (1), Hannah Whately (1), and Daelan Judd(l). Keep up the hard work and team play, girls. shot into the back of the net. Kevin made it 5-0 when he first timed a chipped pass from Mike and Tyler Gibson past an onrushing goalie. Lonny Gibson scored the best solo effort of the match when he took a pass from Tyler, beat his man on the right wing, raced 30 yards and slotted the ball past the goalkeeper into the near side of the net to make the final score 6-0. Before the whistle blew to end the match, Scott Hanthorn knocked the goalie off his feet with a 20 yard bulletlike bulletlike shot. All things considered, this was one of the best matches Darlington has played since their first tournament tournament of the season. The boys play at Wexford this Wednesday, before heading to a tournament in Gloucester in what promises to be a good test of the team's abilities. NEWCASTLE GIRLS' SLO PITCH GP W L T PTS.
