Scarborough Skunks Get Vaccinations Against Rabies The Canadian Statesman. Bowmanvillc, July 19, 1989 The Ministry of Natural Resources will be live- trapping skunks and vaccinating vaccinating them against rabies in an area of Scarborough over the next four months. "Skunks are the most common carriers of rabies in urban areas," Natural Resources Resources Minister Vincent Kerrio said. "Our rabies research research project is aimed at controlling and, I hope, one day eliminating rabies." "Live traps will only be set at night, to lessen the chance of accidentally capturing capturing pets, and will be monitored monitored so that no animal is confined for a lengthy period of time," Mr. Kerrio said. People arè asked not to move or spring these live traps. They are completely harmless and will be checked daily. For the first time, the ministry will be testing two types of skunk "baits"; a cod oil mixture and a beef tal- low-and-chicken essence mixture. The bait testing will determine if skunks are more attracted to one than another.
