Yelverton By Harvey Malcolm Church services have again resumed at the Janet- vnle Charge including Yelverton Yelverton this week- end July 31st. The church interior is being refurbished with the seats looking sharp in their new coat of beige paint. Not to worry in case you're using "wet paint" as an excuse not to attend - it's quite dry. Reverend John Evans provided provided a short but very impressive impressive sermon on Sunday - too bad there weren't more people present to absorb it. It must be very frustrating for a minister to preach to a bunch of empty pews. Our community must soon faceup faceup to the reality that if we don't get off our duffs and support the church with our presence as well as our finances, finances, it will be closed in the very near future. The decisions decisions ours. The closing of the school grounds as a sports arena prefaced the present situation. If we lose our church, our community will be a complete nonenity with absolutely no community community activity. Yelverton would tie nothing but a road sign on a busy highway. If that is the wish of our citizens - that's fine. But let's not let our personal indifferences sink the ship! Welcome home to Mr. Stephen Lemiere who has been passing his time recently recently in either the Port Perry or Oshawa General Hospitals with a severe case of pneumonia and viral infection. infection. Stephen will be recuperating recuperating for several weeks, before returning to work and regaining a portion portion of the 30 lbs he lost during during his illness. Newlyweds Gloria and David Moore left on Sunday a.m. for a week's honeymoon in the Bahamas. Trust they will come home all "browned off 1 by the weather, not with marriage. After weeks of construction, construction, our 7A Highway has been repaved and is now complete from Highway. 35 to west of Nestleton. From appearances the Warren Paving Company has done a fine job of fulfilling their contract. Sure is a great improvement improvement over the old road. Bob and Hazel DeJong have sold their farm 3 miles west of Yelverton and intend to move out in the fall after the crop is taken off. We understand understand they expect to move to Cayman Islands which is Hazefs birthplace. Belated congratulations to Lorraine and Carl Smith of Bethany who observed their 47th wedding anniver- saiy this past week with dinner out in Lindsay in company with Isabel and Norman Wilson. Each year for the past several years we have renewed renewed acquaintance with a couple from Oil Springs (near Sarnia) whom we met while vacationing in Hawaii. This year it was again our pleasure to have them spend some time with us while attending attending the Bobcaygeon Fiddle Fiddle and Step Dance contest. Oh yes, their names Kate and Bob Cook. We also spent an evening with them at the arena where the Hi- Lite of the evening was a musical half hour with Eleanor Eleanor and Graham Townsend Townsend with their violins plus the open step dance contest with 14 contestants. On Friday, Mrs. Edith McGill (widow of the late Earl McGill) of Beaverton was laid to rest in the family plot at Yelverton Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. McGill were residents of this community a number of years ago. The immediate family were hosted hosted with refreshments at the home of Eileen and Howard Malcolm following the funeral funeral services. Those present included the McGill's son, Moms, his wife Ruth and their two sons and their wives from the Muskoka and Ajax areas. Mr. Gary Bristow and his orchestra are playing at the Islander pavillion on Scugog Island - during the month of July. Their music was well received by those present on their first two evenings.
