This team was invited by Oshawa Italia of the National National Soccer League to play a (20) minute exhibition game at half time against a travelling travelling team from Middlesbo- rough England, all in sup- >ort of Grandview Center of Durham Region. The Darlington Darlington Youth Soccer club made a $50.00 donation for this worthy cause. Darlington played an excellent excellent game, despite a 3-0 decision in favor of the dynamic dynamic English team, whose game we know is soccer and they also use the National rule which allow 15-years- olds to play against our 13 and 14 year olds. Also keep in mind, this was the first game for our squad to play together, it was only an exhibition exhibition game against Brian Smith's Flying Dutchman Bantams. Darlington's next outing was Kingston Township's annual tournament. Their first game was against Cornwall Cornwall Blazers. The first goal was scored by Ryan Delaney set up by Jeff Wright. It was the only goal to be scored by the Darlington team with a 2-1 decision going in favour of Cornwall. Everyone played well, with special note going to the Wiggans boys for their excellent hustle hustle and defensive plays. Jamie Jamie Goyne's big kicks, Phillip Phillip Baker forcing plays with great speed, and what can you say about Ballantine. Game 2 was against Peterborough Peterborough of the Scarborough Scarborough competitive League. This challenge did not bother bother this club as can be noted by an even game after the first 30 minutes. Eventually, Peterborough conquered with a 6-2 decision. Goals were scored by Sarah Couch and Jeff Wright, with strong 2-way play by Andrew La- ing, good offence by Mark De? and strong defensive play by id Philip Viggans and Philip Deighan and Ryan Delaney, and strong C Michael Wif Baker. The last game was against Central Frontenac - we had a major change in the line up with Ryan Delaney Delaney unable to play but covered covered very well by Marcia Corey of Bowmanville Lioness. Lioness. This was our game with a 3-0 decision in favour of Darlington. Goals went to Eric Wiggans, Wiggans, Sarah Couch and Michael Michael Wurmitzer. Shut out to Kevin Ballantine. There is no mistaking that this whole team is starting to gel and you should read about it in our next write up concerning concerning Cobourg's International International Tournament. Special note to Julie Axford who is out of the line up for the next while. Car buyers are saying, i was former grower Mark Atkins, who will be 95 this fall and his daughter liioria Atkinson from the Leskard Road area. No Change for Toros Class The Bowmanville Toros' hopes of giving the players within the Town of Newcastle Newcastle a higher caliber of hockey this year was put on hold for the 1989-90 season. The O.M.H.A. approach across Ontario is not to eliminate eliminate the small centres' hockey organization entirely but to have more AA and AAA centres which will only' create a higher standard in hockey. This set up is now in place in the Simcoe Area as well as the Aurora- Markham-N ewmarket area. With the so-called Grey Area of Courtice, players east of the town line to Bowmanville, Bowmanville, have played their hockey in either Oshawa or Bowmanville at their own desire, but that has been eliminated with the bulk of the players now to play in Bowmanville. The rapid growth of the Courtice area and our neighbours neighbours to the east, Orono and Newcastle, the Toro organization organization felt quite confident the Toros were AA material with a minor and major system system and likely a #2 team combined. It was understandable that Orono and Newcastle did not want to lose their identity as the Citizens of Bowmanville did not approve approve of the Regional Government Government change to the Town DURHAM THE REGIONAL MUNICIPALITY OF DURHAM PUBLIC NOTICE Take notice that the Regional Municipality of Durham is considering considering AN APPLICATION TO AMEND THE DURHAM REGIONAL OFFICIAL OFFICIAL PLAN. The Bowmanville Toros organization definitely has AAA calibre players who do not get the opportunity to play, where as the Orono- Newcastle organizations have several AA hockey players who would have the opportunity to play at their own level of competition. The Toros were led to believe believe that this is the direction direction the O.M.H.A. wants all organizations across Ontario to go; but with the amount of unanswered questions, the Toros, Orono and Newcastle Newcastle could not come to, terms on amalgamation of' the three centres for the upcoming upcoming season. Players within the Town of Newcastle are allowed to register and play in the B.R.H.L. but only players from Bowmanville town line on the east and the Oshawa/ Bowmanville town line on the west are eligible for Toro hockey.
