L grôîi i A number of local citizens are currently enjoying summer summer vacation. Mr. and Mrs. Marte Malcolm and girls of Omemee enjoyed a week's vacation recently camping in Watkin's Glen, New York State, USA. The scenery at the three National Parks they visited was spectacular with a series of gorges and à variety of waterfalls throughout that area. The finger lakes there provide a very attractive location for camping and sight seeing. This week they are spending a couple of days with Mitzi and Bob Fick at their cottage cottage on South Haliburton Bay. Brenda and Tara Malcolm Malcolm are currently accompanying accompanying Todd Malcolm who is playing hockey in a tournament tournament this coming week in Vancouver, B.C. In the Canadian Canadian competition, two teams from Ontario will be competing with teams from various other provinces throughout Canada. Terry will join them on Sunday. This week, Eileen and Howard Malcolm accompanied accompanied Come and your Scribe for a short vacation with Ruth and Ralph Malcolm at their cottage near Killamey. We spent two enjoyable days in this rustic setting swim- ■ ming, canoeing, sailboating, motorboating through the length of the six mile Johnny Johnny Lake viewing the scenery which included the Silver Peak mountain whose white quartz summit gave one the impression of a snow covered covered peak. All in all it was a pleasant holiday while enjoying enjoying the hospitality of Ralph and Ruth. Although we missed seeing the black bears, 10 were sighted earlier earlier at the Kellarney Park dump. We were favoured, however, with seeing 12 loons which were obviously holding a family reunion plus a family of ducks - the momma and her three remaining remaining ducklings. . Mr. and Mrs. Bob Carmichael Carmichael and Crystal spent the week end in Port Severn with Bob's relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Stinson Stinson and Lacey are spending the weekend with friends up North. For those who have been praying for rain, their prayers were answered with a vengence on Friday, August August 4th. Here at Yelverton -.where we haven't had a measureable amount of rain since June 20th, the heavens heavens finally opened and the tap was turned on full speed ahead. What started out as a gentle, little thunderstorm, thunderstorm, soon turned into a downpour that lasted most of the afternoon. Even the parched earth couldn't absorb the continued continued deluge, water soon began began to run down the road ditches and ponds formed here and there and everywhere. everywhere. The culvert that drains the spring freshets here at Majconia couldn't cope with i tile' flow and a large 'pond V 'formed and flowed over l the laneway causing minor washouts. The swimming pool which had evaporated almost almost to a point of requiring more water to continue to function, by evening was only a few inches from the top. All in all, somewhere between 3.1/2 to 4 inches of rain fell in a few hours. Mrs. Mike (Anne) Smith has recently returned home from a five-week holiday in Finland where she renewed acquaintances with her relatives relatives in that country. Anne's cousin Ahti Ahomen returned returned home with her and is currently spending four weeks with the Mike Smith's here in Canada (specifically (specifically Yelverton). Local residents were disappointed disappointed to see the Hon. John Eakins given the old "heave-ho" from the provincial provincial cabinet after many years of dedicated service to the party. We weren't surprised, surprised, however, to see several several other cabinet members who were Star performers in the cabinet out on their ear after being accused of receiving receiving unauthorized favours. Obviously, some housecleaning housecleaning was in order. We were rather surprised to see an Agriculturalist from Timiskaming. take over the Ministry of Agriculture portfolio. We would have expected expected Harry Pelliserrio to get the nod! Deepest sympathy is extended extended to Mrs. Harold (Laura) (Laura) McNeil of Janetville and Mrs. Brian (Bemiece) Wilson Wilson of Yelverton and the many other close relatives in the passing this week of Mr. Harold McNeil, after a prolonged prolonged illness. Harold was employed for many years with General Motors of Oshawa. Congratulations are extended to Sterling and Pat McGill who will be celebrating celebrating 25 years of happily married life this weekend. Belated congratulations to one of Ops Township's more venerable and revered senior citizens in the person of Mr. Clare Curtain. Clare recently observed his three score and ten (plus five more for good behaviour). All join in wishing Clare many more happy birthdays, We understand understand that he is considering getting his rocking chair mo torized to conserve energy. Mr. and Mrs. Wcndal Wyatt and family of New York State USA are currently currently visiting Julie's relatives in the area .
