GST Makes Us Nervous From Page 4 process of attempting to sell the program program is somewhat premature. It's very likely that new information, information, public protests, or thoughts of winning the next election will radically radically change Michael Wilson's financial blueprint. We're not expecting that the final draft of the GST proposal will exactly resemble the ideas currently floating around the nation's capital. In that case, at a cost that has been estimated at $800,000 per week, the ad campaign will have been of little value. From the sparse information supplied supplied in the government ads it would appear as though we are supposed to accept the GST on blind faith. Like the Free Trade policy, this latest latest government initiative would be impossible impossible to evaluate until it had been implemented for a couple of years. And by that time, it will be too late to reverse any harm that has occurred. Brian Mulroney and his Ottawa mandarins should seriously re-think their plan to tinker with the engines that power the Canadian economy for one final reason: The Canadian population population has a gut feeling that this GST is a big mistake. A recent gallup poll estimates that about three-quarters of Canadians don't like the GST. And the the government's government's latest propaganda offensive gives no proof that their misgivings are unfounded. Maybe the electorate knows something something that the federal gôvernment doesn't. It's time to take the GST back to the drawing board. The Salvation Army Bowmanville Citadel 75 Liberty St. S. Langley Presentation Looks at Concerns Of Separate School Parents Parents and members of the general public are invited invited to attend an evening seminar seminar about integration in the Separate School Board from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 28th, 1989 at St. Peter's Auditorium, Auditorium, Peterborough. The evening evening will kick-off a professional professional development day for staff in the system. Father Pat Mackan, educator, educator, integration advocate, and associate of the Centre for Integrated education, will make a presentation titled titled "The Philosophy of Integration" Integration" and Linda Till, parent parent of a handicapped child, will offer "Parental Viewpoints Viewpoints and Concerns." The term integration refers refers to the process of including including children with special needs into the regular classroom. classroom. While the term has become widely used, it is not always accompanied by an explanation and according to Student Services Coordinator Coordinator Brian Crangle, "Parents and members of the public need a chance to hear integration explained. They have some very valid questions to ask and we tnink it's important that a forum be provided for them." The Board's Philosophy of Education specifies that "every child is an individual with unique strengths and needs" and "that the majority majority of these needs can be met in the regular classroom." Between "1981 and 1989, an extensive network of programs programs has been developed. To help deliver these programs, programs, a significant number of staff have been added in a effort to maximize the time any high needs child spends in the regular classroom. "Welcoming children'with needs and disabilities is a key to Catholic education," Mr. Crangle explains, "If we are to follow the example of Christ, we see a responsibility responsibility to reach out to those who are not included." In 1988- 89,schools throughout the PVNN Roman Catholic Separate Separate School Board were selected selected to pilot integration programs. During that time, staff developed techniques that were helpful in integrating integrating high needs pupils into the regular classroom, "where they belong," notes Mr. Crangle. The Board is presenting this special session in the hope that parents and other interested members of the public will plan to attend this unique evening to learn more about integration.
