FLASHBACK --10 YEARS AGO -- The Bowmanville United Major Atom Soccer team, sponsored by Checker's Variety, defeated Pickering 2-0 in the quarter quarter finals of the playoffs. Goals were by Chris Beck and Mike Colwell after some good work by Junior Pilhie and Gary Laisser. Glen Campbell, Mark Smith and Peter Scto on defence and goalkeeper Ted Groves had fine games. WINS SECOND IN COBOURG 10 KILOMETRE RUN -- Bill Bryson, of Bowmanville, earned a second place in the 10th annual Cobourg Post Run held on Saturday, August 19th. Runners from France, Great Britain, the U.S., and across southern Ontario were competitors in this 10 kilometre event which is sponsored by Kraft General Foods. In total, there were 400 participants. Mr. Bryson placed second in the seniors' category which is for runners 50 years of age and older. Ilis time was 42:22. Paul Barron, of Toronto, was the overall winner winner of the event while Laura Kananlz, of Toronto, was the fastest female runner. SPORTS SWAP THIS WEEKEND -- If you want to check out some bargains in used ski and hockey equipment, equipment, be sure to drop by Cowan Pontiac Buick this Saturday for the Big Brothers Association Sport Swap. They played on home turf Saturday, September 9, and defeated defeated Listowel in a 12-4 count. Darlington continued to challenge hard and tied up the game at 2-2, but were unable to score the winner. After a well played game where we out hustled the other team but couldn't out- score them, it was disappointing disappointing to see them advance advance to the final on the strength of a tie. The players worked hard, had fun, and were a credit to their parents and Darlington Darlington Soccer League. Pebblestone Holds Club Championships The Pebblestone Golf Course held a buffet dinner for its members on September September 10 and one of the highlights highlights of the evening was the presentation of tropnies. Bob Lewis was the men's club champion, while Doug French was runner-up. Joyce Wurbs was the ladies' ladies' club champ and Joyce Gifford was the runner-up. Dennis Sobil was the Pebblestone Family Tournament Tournament Champion and Paul Sobil Jr. was runner-up.
