BOWMANVILLE TO HOST WOMEN'S HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP--Teams CHAMPIONSHIP--Teams from Sarnia, Mississauga, Toronto, Hamilton, Brampton, and Scarborough will be among those invited to the 1990 provincial Senior A Women's Hockey Championship. This competition will take place January 26, 27 and 28 in Bowmanville's new recreation recreation complex. Bowmanvillc is a member organization organization of the United Counties Girls' Hockey Association, a group which includes Baltimore, Bewdley, Marmora, Keene, Warsaw and Havelock. GOLF TOURNAMENT RAISES OVER $15,000 -- A Golf Tournament held at Deer Creek Golf and Country Estates Estates in Ajax raised well over $15,000 for the Oshawa and District Association for Community Living. This year's organizer for the event was Terry Kelly, who has raised over $150,000 for the Oshawa and District Association Association for Community Living in the past 15 years. Bowmanville 623-6353 Cross Country Meet Held at St. Stephen's High School St. Stephen's Catholic High School held its annual cross country meet last week for "feeder schools" in the area. Students from grades three to eight participated participated in runs of varying distances. Dave Quigley, one of the St. Stephen's physical education teachers and Ryan Brooks of St. Stephen's Elementary School, were on hand to keep things running smoothly. Organizers explained that the. run was held for the benefit of those students who may wish to attend St. Stephen's in the future. The children were divided into four cate- ories-: grades three to six in the Junior Boys' and unior Girls' events and the grades seven and eight in the Senior Boys' and Senior Girls' category. Ribbons went to the top six in these events. There was also a team trophy. Pictured above are some of the students who took part in the events of the day. When the dust settled and the students crossed the finish line running running strong or walking slowly, Knox Christian Elementary Elementary School, of Oshawa, was the over-all winner when their strong team put all challengers to rout. Congratulations go to all who participated and to Adam Carter, the co-op student whose course designs provided a challenge for all the entrants. The Eagles continued their effectiveness on the power-play, notching 4 with their special units. Brad Robinson notched the first one from Shane Armstrong. Shawn Rekker potted the next two with a man advantage, advantage, the first from Shane and Robinson and his second second from Kelly Armstrong. The final power play marker came from the stick of George Pithie with Glen Campbell getting the set up. David Fairey was the marksman for the fifth goal, with Pithie picking up the assist. On Saturday, October 14th the Sub boys played their first game of the year, defeating Dykstra's by a 6 to 1 score. In this game the Sub boys started slow, allowing allowing Dykstra's to score first. But Robbie Watson connected for the Subs with Les McCrory picking up the assist. Darren Alim then connected, with Robbie and Brian Thorton getting assists. assists. Later that day the Sub boys travelled to Orono to do battle with MacKenzie Park from Oshawa. The Sub boys were minus their goalie so Steve Sargent filled in and helped the boys skate to an 8-0 win. This game showed why the Sub boys are going to make life hard for many visiting teams. In this game Chad Veinot and Robbie Watson picked up the hat trick with Justin Vance notching two goals. Darren Donahue picked up 2 assists with Darren Allen and Brian Thorton also picking up assists. In this game there should have been many more' assists but the referees were caught up with the big scorers. Les McCrory and Tim Forret made a nice defensive line in this game.
