Junior Gardeners Day On October 14, 1989, Junior Gardeners and leaders leaders attended the first Junior Day in Orono. The program opened with the singing of 0 Canada followed by remarks by District Director Anne Bourke. Town of Newcastle Mayor Marie Hubbard spoke to the 60 junior attendants and welcomed them. Then, it was off for a hike to the Orono Forestry Station and a guided tour by Mr. L. Pfef- fer. In the afternoon three different workshops were conducted and everything was judged by people from the Ontario Horticultural Association. Two hundred and forty-eight entries were brought in from the different different societies in District 17. Of these, Newcastle Juniors exhibited 62. Harry Wyma judged all those. Mr. Margaret Yeoman from Port Dover judged the creations which were made that afternoon and Joanne Sutherland was the big winner winner of the plaque. Newcastle winners were: Melanie Allin, Allin, Rene Bedard, Patrick and Matthew Caswell, Mari- sha Caswell, Nathan Coyle, Tim Hales, Becky and Karen,.,King, Karen,.,King, Barbara Metcalf, ■Amy Schumann, Robert and Douglas Walton.
