The com- petition is between the best ©runners from the Durham and York regions. The Junior Girls were amazing as they finished 2nd for overall team points and received silver medals. All of the girls qualified for OFFSA. Laura Sommerscales - 44th, Kate Langstaff. Gracy VanHoof - tied 25th, Veroni- ca Harris - 23rd, Tara Coop er - 10th, Diana Moriarity - 2nd. The boys didn't make it to OFFSA (best high school runners from all of Ontario) however they had a great finish to their season. Doug Millson - 54th, Brad Palmer - 71st, Brian Elliott - 74th, Sean Anderson Anderson - 84th, Matt Aitken - NR. Chris Hilbom - NR, Paiil Stonehouse ran an excellent excellent race and finished 5th. In the back from the left are: Robyn McKinnon, sixth; Brad Shaw, sixth; and Jeannette Charest seventh. seventh. 401 Esso Atoms Win Three More Games The boys from the 401 Esso Atom hockey team played their third hockey game of the season on Saturday, Saturday, October 28, after winning winning their first two games against T-Mac and Ontario Hydro. With only 11 players and two full lines everyone had their work cut out for them. The Esso crew struck early with two quick goals. The first goal came at the 1:03 mark with Darryl Cook scoring on a pass from Wade Worsley. Twenty-seven seconds seconds later, Darryl scored an unassisted goal to put Esso ahead by two goals. Brandon Renton made several good saves in the first period to help preserve the lead. The secon<yjeriod opened with Hutton Transport putting putting on the pressure and dominating play in the Esso end. Brandon again came to the rescue with a tough shoulder save and then mode a great stop on a two on nothing break, and scooped up the loose puck before Hutton could score. On the next shift Darryl Cook notched his hat trick on a nice shot following a pass out from the corner by Ben Medd. Darryl continued his outstanding play and scored his fourth goal of the game on a rising shot from the left side. Paul Drummond Drummond gave 401 Esso a 5-0 lead after nutting a nifty move on the dofcncemnn and flipping the puck past the Hutton goalie. Hutton put on considerable considerable pressure lato in the game and scored three unanswered unanswered goals. First Game Toros vs Cobourg Friday, October 27, 89 Friday night action was in the Cobourg Arena, 1st period saw end to end hockey. hockey. Cobourg received the first penalty of the game, putting Bowmanville on the power play. The Toros worked hard but just couldn't get it in the net. Bowmanville dominated most of the play in the first but at the end of the first the score remained 0-0. 2nd period saw Bowmanville Bowmanville take their first penalty, putting Cobourg on a powerplay and putting them on the scoreboard. Shortly after, they scored their 2nd leaving it at 2-0 hockey game at the end of 2 periods. 3rd period After a short rest it was time again to hit the ice and try to bring some of their hard work to the scoreboard. But Cobourg scored 2 more quick goals. Although the Toros' teamwork was there, the scoreboard remained empty. Then Luke Akey picked a pass up from Mike Nesbitt making it count. Minutes later Greg Knox scored from Jason Jeffreys. After a well played game the scoreboard just didn't read what it should have. The game ended with Cobourg 4 Bowmanville 2. We'll get them next time boys! Sat. October 28 Bowmanville vs Lindsay The Toros hit the ice at 3 p.m. After the hard work the night before they were ready to show Lindsay who was boss. They dominated the game and came up with a score to prove it. At the end of 3 periods of hockey the scoreboard read 5-1 Bowmanville, Bowmanville, way to go boys. Teamwork always works. Without all goals accounted accounted for, Luke Akey, our Captain received his first hat trick. Sunday, October 29 Bowmanville vs Omemee Wow! What a team, it showed on the ice and on the scoreboard. With a previous loss to this team of 6-0 the Toros meant business, they were not leaving without the win under their belt. Al- Mr. Sub Crew Busy With Three Contests The Mr. Sub team had a busy week with 3 games. On Thursday, October 26, the Mr. Sub team played St. Mark's of the O.C.H.L. at Darlington Arena. The Sub team skated to a hard fought 3-0 victory. The goal scorers for the Sub boys were Rob Watson, Chad Vie- not and Brian Thornton with his first of the year. Darren Allin and Justin Vance each picked up assists assists in this game.. This is Brian's first year in hockey, and with his heart and drive we are expecting big things from him. Little Darren Allin Allin seems to enjoy the hitting hitting but the coaches wish he would hit some little guys. Jeff Crawford played well in net and deserved the shutout. shutout. On Saturday, October 28 the Mr. Sub team played a league game against Big "E" Roofing. Both these teams had won their previous • league games. The Sub boys scored first with David Vernon Vernon getting the goal and Alex Walcer the assist. Mark Read scored for Big "E" to tie the game. Chad Vienot notched the 2nd goal for Mr. Sub with Darren Allin Allin and Brian Thornton getting getting assists. Darren Allin then notched the 3rd goal with Brian and Darren Donohue Donohue picking up assists. Darren Donahue then notched tho 4th Sub goal with Justin Vance getting the assist. In the last minutes of the game both teams put out their big lines with the Sub boys coming out on top with Rob Watson scoring and Dairen Donahue ana Chad assisting. The final score showed a 5 to 1 victory for Mr. Submarine. On Sunday, October 29 the Mr. Sub team travelled to Newcastle to play MacK- enzio Park from Oshawn. Tho last time these teams met tho Sub boys skated to an easy victory. This game proved a big difference with the MacKenzie boys getting a hard fought 3 to 1 victory. Tho only Sub goal was scored on n pass from Clayton Clayton Guest to Rick Swale back to Clayton who notched tho goal. The Sub boys have now played 9 games with a record of 6 wins and 3 losses. losses. though it was not from the effort of Omemee. Bowmanville played well and it showed. 1st period saw end to end hockey with our goaltender and defence on tneir toes at all times. The forwards skating and passing for a team effort. Stiles Newcastle Busters Old- timers hosted Ontario Motor Sales on Sunday, October 29, and spotted O.M.S. their only goal at 1:34 and Busters Busters went on to score 6 to take the sails out of the Ontario Ontario Motor Crew. Busters' scoring leaders were Mike Doyle with 2 goals and 1 assist with Grant Flintoff, Dave Roote and Tony Jones, all with 1 goal' and 2 assists each. Sandy MacDonald had 1 goal and 1 assist. George Sainsbury and Gary Wood- beck had 1 assist each. The first period saw Ontario Ontario Motor Sales open the scoring on a goal by B. Ruddock Ruddock at 1:34 (the first shot of the game on Kelly) assisted by Dave Gay and I Madill. Leo Kelly closed the door on the Motor crew for the remainder remainder of the game. With 1:20 left in the period Grant Flintoff scored to break A Hill's shutout assisted by Dave Roote and Mike Doyle to end the period. The 2nd period saw New Faces for Halminen Toros Halminen Homes, Roger Hornsby, Bill VanBoxtel, and John Keating are proud to present to you this year's edition of the Halminen Homes "Midget" Toros. In goal is, #1, Geoff Smith and #30, Jason His- cock. At defense we have, #4, Ron Lux ton; #5, Trevor Boyde; #8, Martin d'Entremont; #9, Brian Page; and #12, Kevin Grant. The Toros have played four games already this year with an 0-4 record. The team has shown a lot of heart and mental toughness over the four games and have improved every game. The coaching staff sees nothing nothing but positive things for the team and given "very strong" positive predictions for the team's future. Scorers for the past four games were; Doug Colter- man and Trevor Boyde with 3 points each; Brian Page, Marcel Desjardins, Chris Brown, and Chris Ewles with 2 points each, and singles singles going out to Geoff Goode and Todd Johnston. Mike Doyle made it 3-1 with his 1st of the game at 5:10 assisted by Sandy MacDonald and Tony Jones to end the 2nd period. Tony Jones started off the 3rd period with a goal at 7:13 assisted by Gary Wood- beck for a 4-1 lead. Mike Doyle scored his 2nd of the game at 10:03 assisted by Grant Flintoff and Dave Roote for a 5-1 lead. Dave Roote closed out the scoring at 18:42 assisted by Grant Flintoff for a 6-1 victory. Busters' next game will be against Hockin Real Estate Estate on Friday. November 3 in Bowmanville at 8 p.m. Busters will be in Newcastle on Sunday, November 5 at 11:30 a.m. against Armstrong: Armstrong: Sports. The Dennis Pizza boys were cooking on the weekend weekend with three wins, and out scoring their opposition with 22 goals and only allowing allowing 2 against them. In the first game the Toros Toros travelled to Stouffville, where after a sluggish first period, came out with 2 goals in the second period by Johnathon Armishaw and Steve Ewles; assists going to Jason Lange, Andrew Wraith and Brett Pakosta. The third period began with a Toro giveaway, which allowed a Stouffville player to get a breakaway and score to bring his team within within one goal. With 1:30 remaining remaining in the game, Stouffville Stouffville pulled their goalie for an extra attacker but Toros' Greg Koenderman stood his ground in goal and with seconds seconds remaining Craig Sabine Sabine slipped Chris Pot the puck ana he scored in the open net to finish the game at 3-1. On Saturday, coach MacDonald MacDonald had them on fire as they exploded for a 11-0 victory victory over Port Hope. Mike McCrory was the key figure in this game as he scored 1 goal and earned himself 4 assists. Chris Pot also had a strong game with 4 goals. On Sunday the Toros were off to Lindsay where once again strong defense play prevailed as they handily handily defeated Lindsay 8-1. Jason Jason Lange led the way with 3 goals and 3 assists. Andrew Andrew Wraith and Craig Sabine Sabine each scored a goal apiece as both boys played strong games.
