Andy Griffin was strong between the pipes as he captured the teams first shut-out. A hat-trick by Clayton Kohn and single goals by Mark Hodgins and Jamie Potter gave the V and G's a 5-0 win over the All Canadians. The next game was against the Young Drivers on October 21. With Jamie Potter in net and a strong offence offence the team won 5-1 in a close game until the third period when V&G scored three unanswered goals. Scorers were Andy Griffin with two goals, Clayton Kohn with two goals and Joel Osborne .with one. On Saturday, October 28, V&G won a close game that could have gone either way right un until the final whistle whistle of tne game. At the end of the second period the score was tied 4-4. V&G scored four goals in the third period with Carter's only scoring once to give the V&G's an 8-5 win. The V&G team played and passed well and had strong net minding by Greg Patterson. Juveniles Lose Game at Home The Juveniles began their second home game with a quick goal in the opening minutes of the first period. Chris Hall's shot from the point slithered by the Markham goalie where Doug Lever was standing to tip it in. Goal to Doug Lever, assists Chris Hall, Steve Gus. Late in the second period, Chris Hall took a shot from the blue line that stunned the goal keeper. Chris, known for his hustling, was there to put in the rebound for an unassisted goal. Students Turn Sod for New School in Courtice Dignitaries, students and parents were in attendance Monday afternoon for the offical sod turning ceremony for the new elementary school in Courtice. This is the first new school the board has built in the past 10 years. Some of the features it will possess include a child care facility and a park shared with the Town of Newcastle. Newcastle. Future students of the school performed the honours of digging up the sod along with Mayor Hubbard and representatives of the Northumberland and Newcastle Newcastle Board of Education. The new $4.5 million school is to be built just off Sandringham Sandringham Drive, south of Highway Two. Workers at the Darlington Generating Station have been busy this month loading loading steam generators into the fourth reactor unit at the Darlington Nuclear Generating Generating Station. The boilers are lifted by Hydro's computerized Liebherr crane. It's among the largest self-propelled cranes in the world. '. Construction on thé fourth nuclear reactor unit at Darlington Generating Station is nearing completion. completion. Boilers, one of the last pieces of equipment to be E ut into the reactor, began eing loaded into the unit on October 16. Four boilers, used in the ■ generation of steam, will be installed in the reactor - one each week. The boilers are loaded by a special crane that . was purchased specifically by Ontario Hydro to install the boilers. Donna McFarlane, community community relations officer at Darlington, said when the crane was bought in 1979 it was the largest mobile crane in the world, capable of lifting lifting the 365 metric tonne boilers. The crane's track width is 12 metres and, when it moves, it stradles the road. It uses three and a half miles of cable when lifting the boilers and special counterweights counterweights are employed during the lift. The operation to load the boiler involves on average of 20 different workers on the site. One man operates the crane while others prepare for the lift and signal to the crane operator once the boiler boiler is lifted. When it is in the building, building, work begins on installing installing the boiler and making adjustments. Murray Kohl smith, one of the crane operators, explained explained that a lot of time is spent getting ready for the vertical lift of the boilers. "Preparing for the lift takes a lot of time but once the lift starts, it takes about an hour," he said.
