This community, along with hundreds of others in Ontario, has continued to keep Terry's dream of a cancer cure alive. MIDGET BASKETBALL TEAM COMES TO BOWMANVILLE BOWMANVILLE -- The Canadian Half-Pints, a professional professional midget basketball team, will be coming to Bowmanville Bowmanville on Monday, November 20, for a six p.m. game at Bowmanville High School. They're billed as a miniature miniature version of the Harlem Globetrotters and arc also described as the world's funniest team. Not only are they accomplished basketball players, but also talented entertainers who keep the audience laughing throughout the game. The performance by the Cana- dian Half-Pints will help the Bowmanville High School basketball team raise funds for an upcoming trip to Nova Scotia. The Senior Boys' team will visit Nova Scotia to compete in the annual Coal Bowl competition competition on January 27.' Tickets to the basketball game will be sold at the door or they can be purchased in advance at the school's box office. EAGLES PLAY UXBRIDGE -- The next game for the Bowmanville Goodyear Eagles will take place on Sunday, Sunday, November 12. The Eagles will be playing Uxbridge at 7:30 p.m. at the Bowmanville Recreation Complex. CLARKE HIGH SCHOOL HOSTS COSSA MEET -- The Clarke High School Senior Raiders Volleyball Team will be in action on Wednesday, November 15, as they host the COSSA Championships. The Senior Raiders have enjoyed tremendous success this season and are ranked in the top 10 provincially. The tournament tournament will consist of three teams, with all the action getting under way at 10 a.m. The championship final commences at one p.m. VOLLEYGALL UNDER WAY AT SENIOR PUBLIC SCHOOLS -- Volleyball, season for local senior public schools is now under way. This year's league has expanded expanded by one team as Dr.- Hawkins Senior Public School, from Port Hope, will join Bowmanville, M.J. Hobbs and The Pines Senior Public Schools. Nick scored 15 goals and had 13 assists for a total of 28 points. In second place was Glen Campbell, also of the Bowmanville Eagles. He posted nine goals and 15 assists assists for 24 points. Chris Schmyr was third in the league with 20 points (10 goals and 10 assists), while Shane Armstrong was eighth, having three goals and 10 assists for 13 total points. COURTICE BASKETBALL PLAYERS PLAN TRIP -- The senior girls and senior boys basketball teams at Courtice Secondary School will be travelling to Europe during the March school break for a 10-day visit. PLAYS HOCKEY FOR COLGATE -- Craig deBlois, who used to play for our own BMIIA Toros, is ,*«w playing hockey for the Red Raiders at Colgate College in Hamilton, New York. The defenseman entered Colgate Colgate after playing a season with the Oshawa Legionnaires Legionnaires in the Metro Junior B Hockey League. He graduated from Cranbrook Kingswood in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, in 1988, where his team won the Michigan state championship in Craig's junior and , senior years. The win keeps Bowmanville on top in the Jr. 'C' standings. While reinforcing their hold on first place in the Central Onstario Jr. C league, the Goodyear Rubber Rubber crew scored 13 goals and only allowed three, on their way to two victories over Port perry and Little Britain. Sunday night, the Little Britain Merchants arrived in town after a sound thrashing at the hands of Cobourg. Atom team and skated to a 5-5 tie. Mike McCrory got things going late in the 1st period when he received a pass from Johnathon Armishaw. Six seconds later Oshawa tied the game to end the first period 1-1. The second period began with Oshawa striking early to take a 2-1 lead. With the Red Wings pressing hard Greg Koenderman made some excellent saves to keep his team in the game. At the 2:57 mark Chris Pot tied the game with a hard shot from the slot. Mike Maynard and Colin MacDonald earned assists assists on the goal once again. Oshawa took the lead 15 seconds later to end thé period period with a 3-2 lead. The third period saw the Toros digging deep as the boys scored two quick goals by Chris Pot and Johnathon Armishaw to put them into a 4-3 lead. Mike McCrory, Jason Lange and Andrew Wraith recorded assists on the goals. Chris Pot got his third goal to give them a 5-3 lend but Oshawa would not give up easily. The game ended 5-5 but the Toros boys should be commended for a strong effort effort in competing against an Atom team. On Sunday the team traveled to Whitby for a exhibition exhibition game where they defeated Whitby 7-2. Jason Lange took charge early and earned himself 5 goals, as linemates Craig Sabine and Steve Ewles earned 2 assists each for their strong efforts along the boards. Chris Pot and Colin MacDonald each scored in the third period with Andrew Wraith and Mike McCrory earning assists. assists. It was nice to see Niki Adams back between the pipes and in fine form, as he made some excellent saves. Chris McKenzie also had a strong game on left wing. Steady defensive play by blueliners Brett Pakosta, Jeff Shmyr and Erik Griffin was instrumental in all the goals in clearing the puck from their own zone. The winning goal was put in an emtity net by Scott MacDonala with just 59 seconds seconds left on the clock, assisted assisted by David Leppert. Scott also scored the second second goal, unassisted at 12:22 in the third period, to bring his number of goals to 15 in three games.The other two goals were scored by Ryan Pingle. Groves Back At Full Strength On Saturday, November 4th the GTS Groves PeeWee "CC" Toros were bn home ice to host Orono. Our injured players had returned to make our team a full squad. The puck dropped and the first period was under way. In net for the Toros was Mark Lynch, who knew what was expected of him from a previous game with Orono. The period saw end to end hockey, both teams wanting that first goal. The fans saw the determination in both teams. But at the end of the first, Orono had made the scoreboard. The second period was much the same. The Toros hasd the drive but the score remained 1- 0 for Orono at the end of two periods of hockey. After a well deserved rest it was time for 3rd period ac-. tion, and action is what it was. Bowmanville scored the first goal of the third, now it was „time for Bowmanville Bowmanville to make their moves and' that was just what they did going ahead 2- 1, when Jason Jeffreys picked up Mike Nesbitt's pass making it hit its mark. ticking and hockey on the move, Mike got his second goal of the game from a pass from Jamie Jamie Sellers. J and J Atoms Looking Sharp The quality instruction and extra ice time supplied by coach Rick Powell and his assistants Jim MacMaster and Gary Ball, is paying off for the J&J Atom hockey club. After starting the league schedule with one loss and one tie, the J&J Atoms Atoms have since added a win to their record. This win came on Saturday, November November 4th, when they competed competed against another B.R.H.L. team sponsored by the Hydro Hydro Employees Union. With the intention of letting letting all players have an opportunity opportunity to play in goal, coach Powell had Colin Ga- linski stand between the pipes. Colin, normally found on the defensive lines, performed performed beautifully, supplying supplying the necessary saves to help earn their first win of the season. It appeared as though that tie would not be broken in the second period either when, with only eight seconds left, Jamie Powell's superb positional play paid off. Occupying "the slot", Jamie Jamie was able to take advantage advantage of a pass from Nick Zdravkovski. With lightning reflexes, equalled only by his father's, he drove the puck past the goal line! Jamie's Jamie's goal brought the game score to 2-1 for J&J. This score held for the remainder of the game, in spite of some very threatening shots from .the forward lines of both teams, Once again the J&J fans and parents were treated to some exciting end-to-end hockey that demonstrated the improving skills of all players.
