Sports News Boys' Volleyball This past weekend the Clarke High School senior boys volleyball team participated participated in the Ontario Championships Championships held at Elliott Lake. The trip to the north took six hours and the boys left early Thursday morning. morning. They arrived in the early early afternoon and found that they were ranked 4th. Friday Friday morning, the boys played against Saint Marie from New Liskeard and easily easily defeated their opponent. They then played against Merritton from St. Catharines Catharines and won two of the three games in the match. Their final opponent in the pool was West Elgin. This team, from the Chatham area, beat Clarke and eventually won the gold medal match. Clarke still advanced on to the quarter against a tough team from Harrow. Unfortunately for Clarke they lost a tight match in an evenly played game. Clarke ended up in 5th place overall which still Obituaries Janeen "Fluff" Prout Janeen left us on November November 6, 1989, to be with her late mom and dad, Winni- fred and Ray Cameron, also her late brother Thomas. She was a "Super Mom" to Kim, Randy and Don, a loving "Dramma" to her baby man Kym - a very special special friend to Cindy. She left many good memories memories with her brother Bev, and her sisters Inez and Judy. Janeen asked for little, but gave so much to everyone everyone she came in contact with. She was an avid Elvis fan, and a lover of country music, she never gave up the chance to "Boogie". Janeen's priceless sense of humor and infectious laugh will be missed by everyone everyone who knew her. P E Ni Lyra C. Metcalf A highly respected and well known citizen of the area, Lyra Cleora Metcalf assed away on Tuesday, "ovember 7,1989, in Memorial Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville. She was 94 years of age. Born in Hampton to Mr. and Mrs. Ambrose Tre- nouth, she was educated in Hampton and Bowmanville. On September 4, 1920, she was married to James Roy Metcalf. A devoted housewife and parent she resided most of her life on the farm on Broken Broken Front where the Darlington Darlington Hydro Plant is now located. located. Mrs. Metcalf was a member member of Hampton and Maple Grove Churches. She was an accomplished pianist and will be remembered remembered by the older generation generation who will recall hearing duets played by her ana Margaret Abernethy (Mrs. Ed De Nure). Mrs. Metcalf also played for church services services in the old Base Line #3 School. She was an active member of the Base Line Good Neighbors Club. An excellent cook, and a lover of horses, she had driven driven horses at the Blackstock Fair. Surviving are her son Ross and wife Judy Metcalf. She was predeceased by her husband, a son Glen Roy Metcalf, Madeline Stevenson Stevenson and daughter-in-law Greta Metcalf. Funeral services were held on Friday in Hampton United Church, with the Reverend Douglas Warren and the Reverend E. Scha- merhorn officiating. The organist organist was Mr. Dougins Dewell Dewell and the soloist Mrs. Rosemary Merklcy. It was-an excellent start and a tight game right up until the 3rd quarter. The girls were de-.- feated but the opposing/ team went on to play in the championships and won. This season was very successful successful in preparing the girls to aid the senior teams in future future years. Congratulations go to the whole team for their team work and hard practices. It was a well earned win as our Raider girls overpowered the opposing opposing team. The girls controlled controlled three quarters of the game and went on to challenge challenge the Campbellford girls once again. The final game of COSSA was tense. Either team was liable to go on to OFSSA but the height and strength of the Campbellford Campbellford girls allowed them to defeat our Clarke Raiders.
