It was a close game from start to finish with both teams having their share of sçoring opportunities. >; 401 started slowly against the tight checking of the J&J team. However, at the halfway mark of the first period, Darryl Cook took the puck in from the centre ice area, slipped around the defence defence ana scored on a hard shot to the goalies stick side. Assists on the play went to Trevor Wright and Ian Robinson. Robinson. Three minutes later, Jeff Carter put a hard shot past the J&J goalie. Brad Johnson, after he had foiled Scott McKay on a rush up the right side. Scott McKay and Paul Drummond received received assists on Jeffs goal, making it 2-0. J With less than two minutes minutes gone in the second period, period, J&J came back with a .goal when Chris Oyler scored unassisted. 401 Esso came back quickly with Scott McKay firing a puck off the top crossbar and into the net less than a minute later. Ben Medd restored Esso's two goal lead, scoring from close in on an assist from Darryl Cook. With less than two minutes remaining in the period J&J scored, making it 4-3 at the end of the second. Six goals were scored in the third period. After falling falling behind 6-5 401 Esso scored a goal on the final shift to tie the'game, and it looked like this was the way the game would finish. However, However, with only 50 seconds remaining on the clock J&J came back to win a very close contest. Ryan Ponto was very good in the nets coming up with the big saves for IDA when needed. Marcel Rousseau, Rousseau, Kris Bruyson, Tully Privett and Peter Godfrey played well in their forward positions and Jared Greening Greening and Jordan Bate were . good on defense for the IDA team. The lone Shoppers goal was scored by Ryan Roth. V&G Nationals 4 Grafton 3 The Nationals travelled to Grafton on the weekend for a two day tournament. The first game played on Saturday at 1:00 was a very tight game. Greg Patterson got the first goal at the 8:53 mark of the first period assisted assisted by Mark Hoagins. The Grafton team tied the game up at 13:43 of the second period. However, three minutes later, Andy Griffin assisted by Greg Patterson, Patterson, put the Nationals ahead again. Grafton tied the game again one minute later, ending the scoring for the second period at 2-2. Andy Griffin clinched the game in the third period with two unassisted goals to end the game with a 4-3 win for the Nationals. Jamie Potter, the V&G goalie, made some great saves to keep the team in reach of a win, especially the final minute of the game when he saved a point blank shot and a resulting scramble scramble in front of his net. Joel Osborne also stood out as the rushed back many times to help the defense. Mr. Sub Dominates With Two Victories On Saturday, December 9, the ' Sub boys faced off against McRobbie Photo at the Bowmanville Arena. Mike Talotti scored for McRobbie's with only 26 seconds seconds gone in the game. Ryan Kohn tied the game when he received a nice pass from Chad Veinot. Rick Swale also picked up an assist on this goal. Darren Donohue scored as V&G Nationals Win 7-2 Contest The Victoria and Grey Nationals took on the Young Drivers club at Darlington Arena on Saturday, December December 9th. Great defensive play by Chris Welsh, Clayton Kohn, Kristy Thompson and Ted Eeuwcs made the job of the V&G goal tender, Jamie Potter, Potter, easy to handle. This was an uphill battle all the way. After falling behind 2-0 in the first period, Derek scored his first of 3 goals, unassisted. In the second period Grafton scored again to make it 3-1. However, Derek scored his 2nd two minutes later, only to see Grafton scoring again with the period period ending 4-2 Grafton. Halfway through the 3rd period, Newcastle finally took command with 3 unanswered unanswered goals in 5 minutes. Newcastle were in a little tougher encounter Thursday night as they fell behind' Grafton early. Trailing 3-0. heading into the 3rd, Chris Davis took a Mike Patrick pass to cut Grafton's lead to 3-1. With 4 minutes left, it was Patrick's turn as he converted converted a Nicholas Stacey pass. With the goalie pulled and time winding down, Newcastle tried to complete the comeback, just coming up short losing a very exciting exciting game 3-2. 1st game of the Toumey- Newcastle vs Brighton.
