Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Fred Storsbergen who renewed their marriage vows last Tuesday evening in Orono United Church, on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Donna Hutton chaired the meeting in absence absence of president Doreen Lowery. Donna will be our new president in ' January and she welcomed all. "O Canada" wad sung with Mary Caswell at piano. Secretary Secretary Carol Mostert gave minutes and several items of business were completed. Donna welcome our special guests, Miss Anne Bourke, District Director, and Mrs. Verna Robinson Pres. Bowmanville Bowmanville Society and also Miss Doreen Perrett. Miss Bourke brought greetings and congratulated the Orono society on the excellent excellent job of providing the first Jr. Dist. Convention back in October. Mrs. Minnie Minnie Zegers, on behalf of Jrs. presented Anne with a very cute place mat .made by our Jr. members. Mrs. Mary Caswell was at piano for an enjoyable carol sing. Mrs. Adele McGill introduced introduced our guest speaker Mr. Bill Bunting (former Supt. of jour local Natural Resources. Resources. He showed excellent slides of wild flowers, both locally and from the Gana- raska Conservation areas. A splendid commentary along with slides was enjoyed by all. Many lucky draws were held and the results of the Christmas show were given out. Mr. and Mrs. David Harrison, Harrison, Newcastle were our capable judges for show. There were 11 exhibitors and 52 exhibits. Two classes drew much attention - the filled basket of cones and dried materials were most attractive with bows etc., and the other exciting class "Let There Be Light," was lanterns and/or lamps lighted lighted and prettily decorated. The judges had their work cut out for them as many classes were excellent. Mrs. Cory DeJonge won "Best arrangement in decorative decorative classes, donated by Mrs. Doreen Lowèry, also most points in show" also Mrs. Doreen Lowery, also most points in show. Unit Christmas Parties Approximately 35 members members and husbands of unit #1, enjoyed their annual Christmas pot-luck dinner in main hall of Orono United United Church on Wednesday December 6 at noon. Following Following the delicious dinner, their leader Mrs. Dorothy Barnett welcomed everyone and read out a thank you from Mrs. Griffin re the layette layette we donated to Bowmanville Bowmanville hospital. We are catering catering to the Heather Rebekah dinner on December 12. Roll Call was answered "Something we remembered Christmas gone by," and this was most interesting! The Committee in charge - Thelma Gilbank, Mary Berry Berry and Doris Wannan. Several readings and "Away in a Manger" was sung. From the book "Christmas "Christmas Legends", the following readings were given, Mary Berry "Christmas Candles" "Pointsettias" by Thelma, "Legend of the Christmas Tree" by Doris Wannan, and "Evergreen Wreath" and "Three Wise Men", was given given by Thelma Gilbank. Mary Berry closed meeting with prayer, and "Silent Night was sung. Sixteen ladies of unit #3 enjoyed their Christmas meeting with a very tasty t-luck dinner at noon, on uesday, December 5, in main hall of church. Isabelle Challice gave grace and all enjoyed the delicious casseroles, casseroles, salads and desserts. Dorothy Bailey welcomed the ladies and called meeting meeting to order. We are sorry to lose Dorothy as our leader, and now Adele McGill will be our contact person.' Carlos Tamblyn led the congregation ana choir in the singing of Christmas Carols. Mrs. Noreen Nixon gave the Prayer of approach and Mrs. Donna Scott in absence of Mrs. Marlene Ross led the lighting of Advent Candle with readers Jennifer Barnard Barnard and lighter Andrea Hartman. We congratulate Noreen Nixon and Liz Vanderschee for their leadership and Bev. Rorabeck for her help, along with all teachers. Wednesday, December 13, Explorer girls meeting at 6.30 and this will be last meeting until January 10, 1990. New Year's Party - In past years a number of people people have enjoyed this gathering gathering for fun and fellowship but if you would like to have it this year, then some of you will have to volunteer to plan it.
