The new President is Peggy Peggy Knapp Georgetown who is as well, a government appointee appointee to the Ontario Veterinary Veterinary Association and the hew President-Elect is Marg Eberle, Highgate, who is president of the Kent Farm Safety Association and was .instrumental in starting Ridge KIDS, a rural daycare centre. - The life skills courses that used to be taught by OMAF are really missed by WI members, so FWIO is entering entering into a two year contract contract with two former Rural Organizational Specialists who have developed programs programs which provide ana develop develop good family life skills. They have workshops, manuals manuals and teaching aids ready and are willing to deliver these across the province with FWIO involvement. '. FWIO is having a leadership leadership workshop, Forms, Facts ana Figures which will develop develop administrative skills for farm women, in January. 'As. well, the Board of Directors Directors was updated on the FWIO Conference to be held in Ottawa in June, entitled Women and the Environ- ment-the challenge is now. This conference with its international international perspective will . deal with the environment from the person to the world. As well, at this conference, conference, it will be seen whether the goal that FWIO set in 1988 of 100 projects to be started by 1990 has been realized. Rita Burak, Deputy Minister Minister of Agriculture, addressed addressed the annual meeting, listing some of the concerns that nave come up as a result result of the series of meetings on the OMAF discussion paper 'Towards 2000 - Trends and Influences.' One of the concerns of the FWIO Board of Directors to the Deputy Minister was the eating up of valuable farm land through severances. They were told that more farm land is lost through severances than is taken through urban spread. Brigid Pyke, as one of her first duties, after being reelected reelected President of Ontario Federation ' of Agriculture, addressed the FWIO Annual meeting discussing some of the problems facing the farming community in Ontario Ontario ana how by the two organizations organizations developing a closer working relationship at all levels, some of these problems can be solved. Women's Institute in England were founded by a Canadian woman, Mrs. Alfred Alfred Watt, 75 years ago. This has now grown into a very large and active organization organization including the Queen and several members of the Royal family as mefnbers. Next year a delegation from Ontario will be part of their celebrations and at the same time will be promoting the various Ontario agricultural products.
