I'd like, to present for your perusal a few of the highlights that Newcastle Hydro- addressed this year. In February - Commissioner Commissioner George Moore and myself attended a two day training seminar for new Commissioners. This was sponsored by the Municipal Electric Association. (M.E.À.) We both learned a great deal from this session and brought home some new ideas for our own utility. . On February 15th we commissioned a new 13,800 Volt 10 MVA substation on Liberty Street North. In May we hired our first Technician. At present he is working on Automated Mapping/Facilities Mapping/Facilities Management (AM/FM) and Geographic Information System (G.I.S.) Our Technician is working closely with staff of Town of Newcastle due to efforts of Commissioner Mayor Marie Hubbard. This is one case where the right hand does know what the left is doing. In June we approved the purchase of stringing equipment. equipment. Our first stringing operation operation was on September 7th in Bowmanville and duly covered by your paper. Also in June the substation substation at Temperance and Queen.Street was taken out of service and the transformer transformer removed. Dear Sir: I would like to join "Concerned "Concerned Resident" in his/her comments on teen vandalism vandalism which appeared in your paper this week. My family moved to Bowmanville Bowmanville 12 1/2 years ago, and has never had any problems problems with crime in this area. However, we do own 2 Volkswagen cars. On November November 6, my son discovered that someone had tried to pry the front emblem off one of our cars, and in the process process had broken it. He went to the police and a report was filed. Not even 2 weeks later, on the night of November November 17, someone removed the back emblem from the same car, and pried both the front and back emblems off our other VW. Again we went to the police, but were told that there was no way of tracing the culprit. So the thief, or thieves, go on their merry way, .while our cars are scratched and defaced. I endorse Concerned Resident's' Resident's' proposal that any person seen in possession of an emblem be reported to the police. But let's not limit this lust to higher-priced BMWs and Mercedes. A crime is a crime, whether the victim can afford a Mercedes Mercedes or just a VW! I would also ask, where are the parents parents of these teenagers? Are they not aware of tneir children's children's activities, or do they just not care. Another emblem victim.
