V* - ■ ^ ; *. t •~~L ; . . : The art of paper-folding (also known as origami) was explained to a group who gathered on Wednesday evening, December 13, at the Bowmanville Library for a demonstration. Two of the participants are shown here as they learn how to transform transform an ordinary square of paper into a bird. The workshop was conducted by Ta- süko Perkins. The Students and Staff of Clarke High School would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents and members of the community for their support this fall. We hope that everyone will have a safe and wonderful Christmas holiday. As reported earlier a Penny Drive was in progress at Clarke High School in support of tne Salvation Army's Annual Christmas Food Drive. This past week saw the conclusion of a successful successful campaign as close to 100,000 pennies were brought in, enabling the school to make a $1000.00 donation. Special mention goes to Mrs. Woods' homeroom who brought in close to $180.00 in pennies and Mrs. Cripps' homeroom who averaged well over $8.00 per person in pennies!! Thank you for all your support in making this a very successful campaign. P.S. It's never too early to start saving those pennies for the next penny dnve! Sports Senior Girls Volleyball The seniors participated in the Cobourg East tournament, tournament, placing third overall. Due to the fact the girls have never played together their performance was nothing nothing less than awesome. Junior Girls Volleyball The young but strong Junior girls played magnificently magnificently in their tournament on December 10 in Peterborough Peterborough placing second. Their strong performance deserves praise and recognition for the outstanding opening of a new season. The next tournament will be held at Clarke on Tues-, day December 19. Good luck girls. Midget Girls Volleyball The midget girls played' their first tournament opening opening the season placing third. This young group of girls should promise excitement and skill for further Clarke teams. Way to go girls! r - , -, , Maple Grove W.I. Celebrate Christmas The ladies of the Maple Grove W.I. and guests celebrated celebrated their Annual Christmas Christmas get-together at 6.30 p.m. on December 11th in the C.E.hall. Mrs. C. Russell and Mrs. P. McIntyre sang "A Welcome Welcome Song" accompanied at the piano by Mrs. W. Laird. Mrs. H. Bradley Pres, of the W.I. welcomed the ladies and led in the Grace. There was a bountiful table table of various casseroles, homemade rolls, salads ana desserts. After all had done justice to the meal, Mrs. J. Geddes was in charge of the gifts donated donated by the committee in charge of evening. Mrs. P. Jollymore led generously donated had a gingerbread house which was won by Mrs. Beckett. Joan Russell led in the singing of carols while the tables were cleared. The U.C.W. was in charge of the program. The Worship ser vice had been prepared by Mrs. D. Wood who was ill but was given by Mrs. B. Snowden, Mrs. C. Russell, Mrs. P. McIntyre and Mrs. W. Laird. Mrs. Russell, Mrs. Mcln- trye and Mrs. Makxam favoured favoured us with more of their singing, accompanied by Mrs. W. Laird. A skit entitled "Women's Libber comes to Santa Land" was given bv Mrs. C. Russell, Mrs. P McIntyre, Mrs. J Geddes. Mrs. F. Makxam, Mrs. H. Cryder- man, Mrs. B. Snowden and Mrs. W. Brown. The W. I. were in charge of the meal, with Mrs. R. Bubar making the rolls. The special collection was to be given to the Salvation Army which amounted to over $160.00. There were over 60 ladies in attendance. Press Sect. Win Brown. Lucien Lambier, Broker-Owner owner of Century 21 Realty Homes Limited on Temperance Street, invited the 1989 Timmy and the 1990 Tammy, along with oth- ' er children, to the official lighting of their tree on Saturday. Santa appeared with gifts and candy canes for all. Lori Mirsch, winner of the star designing contest, was presented with a walkman by Mr. Lambier. On hand for the event were: Dave Tonkin, President of the Oshawa and District Real Estate Board; John Brown, of the Bowmanville Rotary Club; David and Sylvia Gillespie, parents of the 1990 Tammy, Lana Gillespie; and Kevin Sharkey, 1989 Timmy and his family.
