Mr. Jam- Alaska adventure. cw»""' s votfr by Lorna Miller God bestows talent on many, but the gift of genius only on the chosen few. Clint Jammer is one of those chosen few. He recognized that he had a special, artistic talent at the age of five. Now, at the age of 27, it has developed developed into full-blown brilliance. brilliance. "When I was five, I loved to experiment with everything everything I could in an art medium. medium. Jammer recalls. "But, I never really settled down and did anything with my talent until I was 16." Jammer comes by his talent talent naturally. His father and uncle also were artists and they encouraged young Clint to develop his talents. (A dream neither one of them had realized). Jammer settled down to 'seriôus work about a year ago during a trip to Alaska with Bill McCrimmon, Art and Antique Gallery owner from Newcastle Village; his brother, Kurt, whom he relies upon for photographic source material, and a friend, Maurice LaFlamme. This Alaskan adventure broadened the artistic horizons horizons of his imagination. po were etched forever in memory, and captured in over 1500 pictures and 12 hours of film, They will soon be transferred onto canvas as this sweeping panorama and majestic imagery flows from his creative pens and brushes. "I remember walking around a natural artesian well in Alaska. Water was gushing out of the rocks and into a pool about three feet deep. The aqua-marine water water was so clear, you could see the salmon suspended in its depths," says Jammer, his eyes glowing with an inner inner light. "There were enormous enormous bear tracks circling the pool inhere the grizzlies gathered to ' fish.' Immense stumps and logs hung with sphagnum moss encompassed encompassed the area. Jammer said he could envision the grizzlies "silently emerging LAST MINUTE SHOPPING? Jammer, who had begun a drawing of a grizzly before his Alaska excursion, found, upon his return, that the spirit of those denizens of the north had indeed imbued imbued his spirit with theirs and the picture fairly flowed onto the-canvass. The Oshawa native "stunned" Bill McCrimmon with his talent at first sight. "I urged him to continue. He has such an amazing talent." talent." Although he began his serious serious works in pen and ink. Jammer has now found acrylics the best medium in which to express this new spark that has added new insight and dimensions to his work. "I am now moving into larger works with acrylics, acrylics, even though acrylics require require many layers of paint to bring out the depth and texture of the subject." says Jammer. They provide me with a real challenge to balance balance the colour, composition and scope of the work." Jammer finds that he does his best work at night, when it's quiet. "I get on a roll and I won't stop until two or three in the morm. ing." Jammer now feels that he has matured enough to know where he is going with his art and wise enough to know how to breathe life into his subjects. "When I was younger, I didn't know how to apply myself. Now I do. I know how to apply myself myself to do what I was cut out for," he says. During his northern trip, Jammer was also treated to a visit with Mr. David Olerud, Olerud, founder of the American American Bald Eagle Foundation, Haines, Alaska. The 48,000 acre reserve in Chilkat Valley consists of river bottom land where the ebb and flow, of the tide provides provides excellent fishing for those remaining symbols of freedom, the bald eagle. Jammer found this incredible incredible man to be "one of the most sincere and nicest persons" he had ever encountered. encountered. Olerud, who was rendered rendered a paraplegic when a wall collapsed onnim during . the building of the Centre in Haines, was presented with a field drawing of a Bald Ea- ■gle by Jammer, which now graces the walls of that building. * " Jammer,* is presently working on -q painting of a cougar, springing to life; from it 1 : co-mingling of imagination', remembrance, photos and this new-found sense of oneness with the wildlife he gained while in the North. For one so young and with so much promise, Jammer Jammer is refreshingly untainted untainted by all the publicity he is receiving. He holds down a full-time job at General Motors as an industrial mechanic, but hopes for the day when he can rely upon his creative ability to support him. And when that day comes, as it surely will, another destiny of genius will be fulfilled and Clint Jammer will be a name to be reckoned with in the artistic circles of the world.
