Our thoughts drift back to the events and people that shaped our lives over the past 12 months. It was a year of delight for some; sorrow for many; and frustrated hopes and despair as they tried to cope with the problems problems of life. The texture of our lives shifted and changed with the growing cost of living; the gloomy voices of labour disputes, violence, high taxes, etc. Unpleasant Unpleasant as are all these conditions, are we mindful of our blessings? Let us be thankful that we live in a free country; with freedom of speech, religion and education. May I wish each and everyone a very Happy New Year! Nestleton Presbyterian Church The regular morning service at 11 a.m. was conducted by Rev. W. Fairley in the Nestleton Presbyterian Church. Joyce Taylor capably played the organ. The responsive Psalm was No. Ill, and the Scripture readings were Isaiah 63: 7-14, & Matthew 2:12-23, The Advent Candle of Love was lit by Mrs. Mamie Magill, and the Christ Candle was lit by Mrs. Dorothy Lee. Church Elizabethville Mr. and Mrs. Ken Trew held Christmas and had the family on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. M. Walker held Christmas and had Jim and Linda and family; Barb and Garry and boys* Bridge- north; David and Jennifer. Walkers had Geo and Eva Giles who had returned from Venezuela Christmas night and stay at Walker's till Tuesday. Mary Trew and Beatrice ■Roweliff and Christmas with Walkers also. . Mrs. Irene Beatty held Christmas and had the whole family. Diane and husband from Richmond B.C. spent the week here as well. Doris Gunby and Andrew Andrew were also with the family. ; Mr. and Mrs. Burton had Anne Burton and Sylvia Burton visiting on the holiday. holiday. Mr. and Mrs. H. Sorry to hear that Clara Sheppard is ill with the flu. • Congratulations and best wishes are extended to Howard Howard Hod gins and Susan Sennott who were married on Saturday at the house with friends and relatives attending. Mr. and Mrs. A. Peacock had Christmas on Monday and had Mr. and Mrs. Jack- son Peacock; Shane and Sophia Sophia Kneisel, Janice, Mark and Linda and baby. Mrs. Mae Mularew took Jim, who was home for the holiday, the Avery's and the McIntosh's out for dinner at Welcome Court on Monday. I had dinner with the Westheusers on Monday and was at Elmer Fowlers for Boxing day. They had their whole family as well. Last week the bowler's had a Christmas dinner after after their game. Mr. and Mrs. 0. Mercer arrived home from California California on Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. M. McAllister McAllister had Christmas with the McCleans. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Mercer held Christmas and had the Mercer's and Pattersons. members were pleased to have Mrs. Fairley worship with them. (Excerpts re-Rev. W. Fairley's sermon) -- As we recall the events that have touched our lives over the past year or throughout the eighties, we may claim to have increased our knowledge and experiences, but have we increased increased in that wisdom that expresses expresses trust in the word of God? Reverence for God is the beginning beginning of wisdom, therefore we must believe God shares our sorrows, joys, frustrations and misunderstandings, giving spiritual significance to everything in life. Service next Sunday at the same time 11 a.m. Holiday News Guests with John & Linda Ar- buckle, Jennifer, Colleen and Marilynn, of Nestleton, for Christmas festivities were John's aunt Isabel McDonald and cousin, Mac McDonald of Whitby. On Christmas night they visited with John & Bev Goslin of Blackstock. On Thursday, Dec. 28, a real family party was held with Russ & Jan Arbuckle and family, with many cousins & families from Colorado, Barrie, Hayden, Toronto, Toronto, and a great aunt. A fine assembly of relatives for the Arbuckle Arbuckle family. On Sat., Dec. 30, saw another family party for the Goslin clan, at John & Linda's home at Nestleton. Guests included Don & Kathy Trump, Angus, Wayne & Joan Hartwick and boys of Kincardine, Kincardine, John & Bev Goslin, Blackstock, Glen & Linda Goslin, Oshawa, and Helen Goslin and Reg Armstrong of Lindsay. A full...but most enjoyable week ol activities in keeping with the Yuletide Season. Ray and June Stevenson of Caesarea, spent Christmas with daughter Barbara Ann and husband husband Andy Morelli and son Brian of Bolton. After a lovely, festive dinner, they all went for a Brunch 178 oftlio Royal Canadian Legion in Bowmanville was a busy place on Now Year's day when members and guests attended the annual President's Levee. The Statesman photographer arrived early and caught President Jim Connell toasting the new year with Past President Hill Rose behind the huge punch howl, lie also noticed Seth "Snuffy" Hunt begin to uncover the fantastic array of food that he had prepared for the occasion. Edgar & Anne Emerson of Nestleton, had a most enjoyable few days...Saturday through Tuesday...with many relatives and friends...during the Christmas Season...at their lovely lovely old farm home. Nestleton United Church A very good congregation at Nestleton United on Sunday, December 31 at 11:15 a.m. with Rev. Dale Davis presenting a fine message based on "Reflections from the 1980's, and looking forward forward to the 1990's." The last candle candle for Epiphany was lit. Dwight Davis was the Scripture reader. The children's theme was of interest. interest. Rev. Davis spoke of Love shining through at Christmas time with families together...and turning off the tap after the festivities are over. A lovely duet "The Peace Carol" was sung by Heather Malcolm and cousin Ailan McKenzie of Orono, accompanied accompanied by Arlene Malcolm on the piano. Offering received by Carol and Matthew Hill. Service closed by singing favourite Christmas Carols. Arlene Malcolm was the organist for the Service. Notice: The Afternoon UCW Unit will meet at the home of Anne Emerson on Tuesday, January 9 at 1:30 p.m. Community Church Caesarea The Christmas Service held on Sunday, December 24 at 11 a.m. saw an average attendance at the friendly Caesarea Church. Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford was in the pulpit. He took as his message theme, "Hidden Treasure" from Scripture Matthew 7: 7-20. The reason for the birth of the Christ Child...was to bring us a real treasure...the Gift of Love and Life...salvation through Jesus Christ...the son of God. The lesson was read by Frank Arney and the responsive reading by Norma Stek. Mrs. K. Watts played for the service. On Sunday evening, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m. the Sunshine Club presented a delightful variety programme for parents and friends. They sang the traditional Christmas Carols.,.as well as new songs they had learned. A recital was also of interest. The older children read The Christmas Story. The leaders Cecile Gibbons, Gibbons, Audrey Kleinjan and Teresa Berbers with Kathy Watts playing playing for the programme...must have been very proud of the children...to say nothing of the parents. At the close of the programme...the programme...the excited children recieved gifts, and refreshments were served to the parents and friends. A great night in the life of the church for Caesarea. The Children's Toy Library held their annual Christmas get-together last month. After enjoying the noon meal, most of the little ones present for the party posed for this photo. The Children's Toy Library is located located in the Trinity United Church, Bowmanville, and Christmas celebrations took place in the Church Hall.
