They had to find a corner lot with enough land to allow one parking space per seating capacity. Such lots were nowhere to be found. At one point they thought they had one on the corner of Wentworth and Lake Vista. After purchasing purchasing it, however, they found the city would not allow them road access, which made the property unviable. They found a buyer for the property, at a good price and invested the money, hoping to find another lot. In the meantime, they were worshipping worshipping in a school. It was around this time that a crucial meeting took place; one that the Bisnop of the church, Donald N. Bas- tian, was called to attend to offer advice regarding the church's future. The names of the attenders one attendee attendee was able to remember were as follows: Mary Van Driel, Alice and Don Eaton, Bill and Ivey Imeson, Gil and Edna Brown, Elsie Foster, Foster, Elsie McCullough and Addie Snider. They agreed with the Bishop's advice that they should stick with it and decided to forge ahead in the pursuit of a piece of property. Not long after, they found the property on Trull's Road. Some were opposed opposed to this idea, because of the proximity to a nearby United Church and because of the sparse population at that time. In the end they decided to go ahead with the purchase. The present state of the work is exciting. Many people people are coming to know Jesus Jesus Christ as their personal saviour. There is little that can compare with this tremendous tremendous happening in the life of the church. Nevertheless, watching a new building going up, and knowing it is an outgrowth of new people coming to faith in Jesus and the tremendous tremendous population growth in the area, is also exciting. Its primary function is to expand Christian Christian education facilities, office office space, and lobby area. This will help to smooth traffic flow, avoid the necessity necessity of having Christian Education Education classes in trailers located located in the parking lot, and accommodate the 30+ new babies that are either already already here or on their way before June! It will be about 3900 square feet per level, for a total of 7800 square feet of functional space. The official dedication of the new building is Sunday, April 29,1990. The new facility also has a ground level rear entrance under a carport. There is an elevator on the entrance level to facilitate handicapped access to the main or lower levels. This building will represent represent the completion of Phase I of the 'Vision Unfolding' at Trull's Road. Phase II will be the addition of a new sanctuary, seating a minimum minimum of 750 (actual size still uncertain). The timing for Phase II is still under discussion. The leaning at present is to begin begin Phase II as early as possible, possible, taking into consideration consideration financing and the toll that the people's involvement involvement in Phase I has extracted extracted from their spiritual, emotional emotional and physical resources. More than anything, anything, we are concerned to adhere to God's timing. We believe He will provide all things necessary if we discern discern His will and act upon it. I am now the third fulltime fulltime staff member. The other other associate pastor is Grant D'Eall. Personnel plays a key role in the role in the development development of any church. History bears witness of the important role that people, like former pastors Dave Dyer and Doug Hiltz, have a ed in the present state e work. I think the most important thing we have found to be a catalyst in growth is emphasizing that every person is a minister and needs to find expression for their ministry abilities within and through the church. With this idea in mind, all three pastors have attempted to spend a good deal of our time focusing upon facilitating the movement movement of people into areas of ministry where they can give expression to their ministry ministry abilities. With the growing nuture, outreach, administrative, worship and care needs, this kind of understanding understanding of the body is critical. Still, we are careful to model what to do. All three of us have had turns banging nails and sweeping floors in the new addition ( and enjoyed it I might add!). When I asked Pastor Vic Stonehouse to comment on the life of the church, he gave me three representative representative and descriptive quotes. First, he said, "The Trull's Road Free Methodist Church gathers for worship with a profound sense of the 'immediacy of God.' People experience this during time of singing and special prayer." Secondly, he said, "Although there are many reasons people come to a church, the major reason they stay is 'relationships.' At Trull's Road we do all we can to help people develop meaningful friendships within the church family." His final comment focused on an idea coming out in his present sermon series: "Our theme for the month of January January IMPROVE YOUR SERVE, reflected our commitment commitment to the priority of lay ministry. We believe that the single most important important statistic in the church is the number of people engaged engaged in intentional ministry." ministry." Indeed, this is an exciting place to be! Where God is at work, there is an electricity and sense of optimism and anticipation that is indescribable. indescribable. It has a tremendous tremendous impact on the level of desire and enthusiasm one has about fulfilling God's will for his or her life. I have often said, and say with present experience, that there is no group of humans on the face of the earth that can do what'the church can do when it is healthy. There is nowhere where people can be loved, cared for, nurtured, nurtured, strengthened, encouraged, encouraged, and made whole, like they can in the church when God is dynamically present. That is why one of our great concerns is to increase the prayer ministry of the church.
