However, graduation is. also a commencement - a new beginning. Next fall we won't all be returning to this familiar place and the friends that are beside us. Our paths are now branching branching out in all directions leading leading to college, university, grade 13, the workplace. As we look into the faces of our classmates tonight, we are reminded of the time that we've spent here together. together. The years which are becoming memories. We have grown a lot since we arrived here and have become become closer together - through our relationships • with each other, with our teachers, and with our Lord. We are a special and unique class; each member contributing contributing their individuality to the whole and with 39 members, members, the whole is quite rung! It's, difficult to think back to a time when we didn't know each other, the time when we first looked each other over and dared to say hi. But it certainly didn't take us long to get acquainted! acquainted! I'd like to think that we brought new life to the school-being full of enthusiasm, enthusiasm, spirit, and excitement. excitement. Grade 9 was filled with new experiences a special special day to welcome us, our first school assembly, class parties, a Special Emphasis Week - "you mean no classes? classes? for a whole week?" , our first chances of being cast on a high school play or participating participating on a sports team, our appreciate them even more. That year, most of us also went chicken pickin' for our first, but most certainly not our last, time to raise money for the gym floor. Those memories, however, are not as sweet, though we even managed to have fun doing that. In grade 10 we welcomed Mr. Petrusma as our homeroom homeroom teacher in the place of Mr. Slafstra. Paul Vander- laan also left us, but Cathy Penfold and Angie Wessels were a welcome addition to our class. Halfway through the year we were joined by another classmate, Chris Bosch. What a treat for us females! That year we went on an excursion to Queen's Park for a civics lesson in history, though what we remember remember best was the time we spent at the Eaton Centre. Centre. Mr. Petrusma remained true to his reputation and organized a tnp to. Exhibition Exhibition Stadium to Watch the Blue Jays in the spring. We haven't missed a year since! And who will ever forget our campout that year when it was so dry that our traditional traditional camp fires at night were transformed into cam- plamps. There we sat, singing singing songs and groaning at Mr. Knoop's hilarious jokes, all the while gazing into the inspiring glow of, not a cozy crackling fire, but, a cold Coleman lantern. We wished Brad De Wolde and James Mulder well as they left us at the end of that year, but in the fall, our numbers again grew as James, Kishor, Meron, Meron, Tammy, Mahdi, and Christa joined us. During Special Emphasis Week we learned about our role as earth keepers. We got involved involved by using our acting abilities in skits which we performed for the school. Yes that truly was a bonding experience! experience! It is evident tonight too, that grade 11 has done a great job in decorating the gym and preparing and serving serving a delicious dinner to us. Thanks for all of your work. Well, last fall our entire class returned for our gr. 12 year. This was our opportunity opportunity to let our talents and gifts really shine. In our participation participation *ih sports, music," dranla, art, various committees, committees, the Shee r Box Times, Student Council and in general, general, we've made Durham Christian High School a better better place. We may not have always obeyed the rules set for us, and I know we've complained about the lockers lockers being too small to share, though Richard and Jason found room enough in theirs to celebrate Christmas with a fully decorated tree, and later, opening up their own coffee shop inside it - equipped with a coffee maker, maker, mugs, and all the accessories. accessories. But Durham has been more than an institution to us. It is a community, dedicated dedicated to furthering Christian Christian education to include all aspects of our lives. This school has given us direction as we continue to journey down our individual paths; we having obtained a Chris- tain perspective in everything everything we've learned. Our class has come to realize how special and unique the family atmosphere is, and it has encouraged us to develop develop close friendships with Van Belle [Floral Shoppes ...much more than a flower store! 14 STORES .HghwyNe.2 • King a. w., Othim • SlmceiSlK, Oehw* • lOODundwStW., •mut Whitby TltttmmU cl Vi M* Otrttnl IM HIGH TENSILE FENCE WHY PAY MORE FOR LESS?
