BOWMANVILLE JR. 'C' EAGLES -- It seems that at this time eveiy year, rumors begin to circulate re- f arding the adoption of an over-age rule in Jr. 'C' ockey. This year is no different. TRIVIA ANSWER -- Mark Calcavecchia (1989). Writer Helps Clarify Boundary Regulation Dear Brad, The Orono Amateur Athletic Athletic Association (O.A.A.A.) would like .to clear .up the misinformation which appeared appeared in your 'Sport- Thoughts' article in the July 18 issue of the Canadian Statesman. The ruling that players must play hockey in their own area of residence is not a rule that can be changed by our organization. The boundaries are laid out by the Ontario Minor Hockey Association (O.M.H.A.), and the rule is enforced by them and has been in effect since the O.M.H.A.'s inception. Our organization has never forced a player to play in Orono. In fact, the par ents of the player in question question were" told two years ago that we would be glad to sign his release if they so desired. desired. We knew, and the O.M.H.A. agreed, that even if a release was signed, and as long as there was an O.M.H.A. team in Orono, he could not play O.M.H.A. in Bowmanville. Obviously the calibre of our Orono O.M.H.A. teams does not compare to Bowman Bowman ville's #1 teams, but we are sure that the brand of hockey is superior to what is played in the Bowmanville House League. Weather Won't Help Lawn Bowlers By Marg Parise Too bad we're not in the business of farming - it seems to me every summer it's either not enough or too much moisture for the crops, either way farmers can apply apply for a subsidy from tne Federal Government, and they get it. Not so in the lawn bowling business. It was much too wet for our scheduled Goodyear tournament on the 15th of July and had to be postponed postponed until the 22nd of the month, which .wasn't much better. However, we were able to get two games in, which constitutes a tournament. tournament. Actually, one game and eight ends for a three game 14 ends would have sufficed, Vic. Foxhall (skip), Jean Livingston (vice) and Bruce Screaton (lead) from the Co- bourg Lawn Bowling Club, won the prestigious Bowmanville Bowmanville Goodyear Silver Trophy with a score for the two games of 42+4, well ahead of the second place winner. Mr. Wally Hicks, Operations Operations Manager from the Bowmanville Goodyear plant, was on hand to make the presentation, along with our President Scotty Boyle. The second prize went to Ken Dawson , (skip), Ella Dawson (vice) and Joe Brown (lead) of the Oshawa v Club with a score of 33. There were three other prizes prizes awarded, two with scores of 32 and one of 30. Prior to the games draw, prizes donated by Bowmanville Bowmanville Goodyear were given out to the players, consisting of garden hoses, caps and various other products of Goodyear. Inge, Rena and Grace served their usual delightful "goodies" after the second game. It was pleasing to see so many out-of-town spectators spectators as well as several of our own members. You know the difference in watching a Blue Jay baseball game at Exhibition Stadium and watching a game at the Dome is at Exhibition Sta- diu, you could sit behind George Bell for four bucks and at the Dome it costs you fifteen. At the Bowmanville Lawn Bowling Cluib you can sit behind any of the pros, (and we have a lot of them) for nothing. So, after you have attended to your spiritual spiritual needs and done the family shopping, why not toddle on down to the "Green" for an afternoon's entertainment, perhaps even try the game of lawn bowling - you'll enjoy! We're open Sunday as well, and conveniently located in the heart of downtown Bowmanville. Bowmanville. Tykes Team Central Ont.
