Thanks from Big Brothers Once again The Canadi- - an Statesman has been very supportive during Big Brother Month. The agency appreciates this coverage since it makes the community community aware of our organization and how it serves them. We appreciate your ongoing support. support. I would like to take the opportunity to thank the Big Brothers of this area, who give their friendship to young boys in The Town of Newcastle. Big Brothers are special people indeed, willing willing to give a few hours of their time each week to make a boy happy. What better way to get a sense of self-satisfaction? It is impossible impossible to ever really thank' these men, - yet they never seem to want recognition anyway. They get it from the joy in a boy's face when they pick him up for an outing. outing. Thanks to our Big Brothers Brothers and The Canadian Statesman for their support- -also the many others who support us throughout the year at one time or another. Where would we be without without our community behind us? Sincerely, Nancy Scott Executive Director Big Brothers Association of Newcastle Bowmanville, Ont. Not a Fan of Mr. Mulroney Dear Sir: The leader of our nation has appointed a premier who is under investigation by the RCMP to a seat in the Senate. Earlier this year this same leader tried unsuccessfully unsuccessfully to have a very secretive and very, very confusing confusing constitutional amendment amendment shoved down the throats of Canadians (Meech Lake). Now, as bankruptcy rates soar and that ugly word, recession, recession, is on everyone's lips, this leader and his government government are preparing, what is in all probability the biggest . and most all-encompassing tax grab in Canadian history. history. I speak, of course of the notorious Goods and Services Services Tax. Shall I also speak of the absolute mess this leader has made of the relationship between anglophone and francophone Canadians, or the divisiveness his inaction, has bred between Canadians Canadians and their Native peo-- pies? Does this leader inspire the confidence of anyone out there? . : Has he shown the potential potential to unite and inspire rather than divide? He hasn't. Has he shown a desire desire to listen to the people of Canada, the people he leads? He hasn't. The leader I speak of is of course none other than Brian Mulroney who under the umbrella of a majority government goes prancing with muddied feet and dictatorial dictatorial assurance through the pages of Canadian history. Does Mr. Mulroney have the confidence of the people he leads? Ask yourself tnis question and send your answer answer to your local MP, or better yet send it directly to Mr. Mulroney's office. It is time the jester-king and his. court of clowns were tossed, from their comfy seats The Hill in Ottawa. ■ Sincerely, Ron van der Werf fiitoix q: Bowmanville, Ont. Dear Sir: Open letter to Ross Stevenson. Stevenson. Re: Senate The Senate would be fine if elected Prime Ministers had made appropriate appointments. appointments. Bills would be passed if it were clear to the Senate that the House of Commons had the backing of the Canadian Canadian people. The problem appears to be the loss of popularity of the Conservative Party and nothing else. That's a statistic most people don't know but extensive extensive studies by the Federal Department of Transportation Transportation confirm.
