4 The Canadian Statesman, Bowman ville, November 7,1990 Letter Writer Offers Views On Laidlaw Landfill Site , An open letter to David Scott, chairman of _ Committee of Clarke V Constituents ' Mr. Scott Since you have moved 'down here, and think you .can run our business, it's ! time someone set you • straight on a few facts and ; not all hear say. • How long have you been £ living here Mr. Scott? Ap- > proximately three years on a l farm given to you. In this "short length of time you _, sure have become a profes- ' " sional on the topics of gar- 'bage, tire companies, farms, etc. After people and experts .have been trained for these specific jobs, you are trying to tell people you know more than these trained experts. Ever since you have " moved here you have tried , to cause trouble for hard / .working people. I would think if you have nothing better to do, you could be doing doing volunteer work with all your spare time or maybe even farming your own farm. As far as I can see the Laidlaw Landfill site will never bother you up on your hilltop, because the under- TAKE TIME TO REMEMBER THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION ground waters cannot run up hill. I can see now there are people who love to see their names in the papers every week but I am, and a lot more people, are sick of your stories and Helen's every week where as you never have all the right facts anyway. anyway. If you do gooders are so interested in our community what about all the housing developments that are being built. You are crying about garbage and taxes, what do you think these developers are doing to tax paying people? people? What about the new hospital hospital and schools? Do you think they are going to accommodate accommodate the people that are here now? Take another look. What about the garbage? garbage? Where is it going to go? Let them keep building, it's okay. I live right beside the Laidlaw Landfill Site and I can tell you it is the best maintained and run site in Canada and I have visited a lot of them. Also, you and Helen claim the creek water is no good, well that's a lot of bull because I run a cow - calf operation operation and have 98 percent calving this year, with seven sets of twins, also for the last two years I have had top calf sales at Lindsay sale. So it must be from the distilled water that Glen Stapleton had stored in a glass for so many years and probably spilt it. It's a shame we have a landfill site run by professionals professionals that our town politicians politicians would not be striking a deal and getting money for all tax payers in the Region, therefore reducing our taxes for a good place to live. The Ministry of the Environment Environment tests creeks every two weeks and never has there been any measurable impact of contamination in the creeks in all the years the landfill has been there. The tire yard is zoned industrial industrial and includes the storage of tires presently. Mr. Scott, you state in the paper that our community community has lived with the legacy of this site for 20 years. How do you know? You haven't lived here 20 years. I would hope that the proper politicians politicians would get the Laidlaw site licensed and going and save us taxpayers anymore expense without anymore of this nonsense. I can see of no way the landfill has depreciated depreciated any property around it when they are asking asking for $125,000 for lots right close to it and houses have tripled in price in the last four or five years. Truck traffic you state at so many trucks a minute, well by your estimations, we'll be backed up to Toronto. Toronto. There are no more garbage garbage trucks than school buses, buses, municipal trucks, hydro trucks or any others using these roads. I could go on forever.but I think I sure have pointed out a lot of things to the public. Betty Hale Newtonville, Ont (foucUty - 'Sqenb Northminster United Church, Oshawa, formed the setting for the marriage of Marie Byers and Darrell Goudey on Saturday, September September 29, 1990, as 2 p.m. by the Reverend K.
