Based on the information the HMRI receives, such as the types of cases the hospital hospital treats and resources to treat those patients, the hospital hospital is able to use the compiled compiled data in order to obtain funding from the Ministry of Health. The focus of the health records department has changed greatly. Mrs. Clarke explained that at one time statistics weren't as important as they are now. For instance, she said, by having a record of the number number of out-patients treated for diabetes, the numbers can be used to justify opening opening up an outpatient clinic. The department also works closely with a number of research programs such as the Ontario Cancer Fund. Mrs. Clarke stressed that all information used from the chart at any time is just data. Personal information such as the name of the patient patient is never used. "The raw data provides for opportunities in research, research, teaching purposes and planning," she said. Under law, records have to be kept in the department for 20 years. After a certain period of time, the records are transposed transposed onto microfilm and . stored. Information sessions were held last Wednesday in Bowmanville and in Solina on Thursday to give the public public an opportunity to provide input into the study. Cliff Lumley, project di rector of Highway 407, said the response to the open houses has been great. "We are really after comments comments about the information we are presenting to the public," he explained. The ministry has developed developed a number of route alternatives alternatives for the link, with the idea of minimizing the impact of the freeway. Leslie Scott, of the consulting consulting firm McCormick and Rankin, said agriculture, existing existing development and the environment were just some of the matters considered in selecting the routes. A range of alternatives was presented to the public, all of which connect to the the alternatives proposed for 407. "The study is to determine determine the recommended alternative alternative in order to protect for that facility," Ms Scott said. Mr. Lumley explained that the public may have in formation the province doesn't possess. Members of the public might know, for example, about land being rented out or other route alternatives. alternatives. "If not, then we get on with the evaluation and analysis," he said. "The major element here is it allows municipalities and others not affected to get on with their lives," he said, explaining that municipalities municipalities have helped the province by freezing lands in the study area of the link and 407. "We are talking about protection now," he said. He added that it is also important important that the land use adjacent adjacent to the route is appropriately appropriately zoned. % ^HUNDREDS OF IN-STORE SPECIALS 1ER M0A| Vby Stop Snarl • Cook %WMi En* • Eat OPEN SUNDAY AT MANY LOCATIONS NewM/3l£6k* SEALTEST PARLOUR ICE CREAI Regular or Light ■ SAVE 2.50 PRIMO VEGETABLE OR 100% Pure Limit 2 jugs per.fbmty purchase 3 I jug SAVE 2.60 QUALITY MEATS or Diet i, mw of 24 x «HMMM I CASH YOUR COUPONS NOW CHECK YOUR LOCAL IGA FOR SUNDAY HOURS.
