< t 14 The Canadian Statesman, Bowmanville, December 19,1990 Section Three Just Think What You Could Give Someone at Christmas! By Joy MacPherson When we think of Christmas Christmas we often think of what we will receive from others. Most of us don't think of others, others, like the homeless, poor, elderly and people without family who will not be receiving receiving such extravagant gifts as ours this Christmas, if they receive gifts at all. Some people might say they'd like to help but they don't know what they could do. I don't think that this is a very good excuse because there are hundreds of ways you can help other people this Christmas. You could help an elderly neighbour by shoveling their driveway. You could also give food to a church group, food drive or other organizations. Other things you could do are giving giving presents for underprivi- 1 legea children or raising - money for a third world . country. Another suggestion is to ; write letter to the soldiers in the Persian Gulf. This 1 Christmas will be difficult « for the soldiers; they will be ; in a desert on the verge of ! war. I think it would be en- ; couraging for the soldiers to know that the people in - Canada are supportive and '. thinking of them. There are many more 1 things that you can do this • Christmas for others. These 1 are just a few suggestions. - I hope that everyone will 1 at least try to do one good - deed for others this Christ- " mas. 1 After all, receiving is only ; half of Christmas; it's the l giving that makes it a whole • experience. : Happy Ending : For Christmas St. Stephen's Students Show Generosity at Xmas Christmas Story By Bobby Cahill I will give my dad for Christmas, slippers and a.movie cassette. It's Christmas don't you know? See the flakes of snow, falling down in a peaceful manner, the bright blue sky like a beautiful banner. For this was the day Christ was bom, Sound the tmmpet, sound the horn! He is the savior, that God sent, He was the world's Christmas present. For God loves everyone of us, even the homeless who have to eat crust. His love is with you inside and out, so give a cheer, give a shout! But remember those in the street, nowhere to go, nothing to eat. So this Christmas give food, clothes or shoes, For this is what God wants you to do. What Can I Give for Christmas? By an anonymous grade 7 student I though about it long and hard, But at Christmas I was broke. I sat down with my Christmas cake, And poured myself a Coke. There was Mom and Dad, my brothers too, Aunts and uncles alike. My little cousin wants a truck, His sister wants a bike! I must find gifts for all my friends, (that's my new occupation) - But there's little that I could afford In my financial situation. i The next day I went to the Mall, • I had to try my luck. I took a look at the prices, And knew that I was stuck. Love and Care By Trindade Santos The weather's cold, with presents of gold. I love Christmas day, because we celebrate a beautiful way. with the lights shining on the tree I know today is Christmas eve. When I turn on all the lights, I go put on a dress and tights. When I wait for my mum and dad to wake up, I give the homeless a hot chocolate in a cup. The homeless out side I can see, they need love from you and me. My mum and dad wake up to open presents with me, For my mum and dad I make some tea. Every boy and girl, lady or man need love and care, so if you see a homeless or poor, give them something to eat or a teddybear. Christmas is today, if the poor want food why do they have to pay? I just want to say I want everyone to have a good Christmas day. - ! they ;■ had : P - ht I began to sweat, my hands were cold, My time was running out.
