Darlington District Girl Guide's has a new District Commissioner Mrs. Jane Shaw. Darlington District includes Enniskillen and Hampton Guiding Groups as well as Bonaventure Ranger Group. Barbershoppers At Oshawa Centre The Oshawa Chapter Barbershoppers, (S P E B S Q S A), in cooperation with the Oshawa Centre, will be presenting a showcase of Barbershop Quartet singing on Saturday, Feb. 9th in the Centre Mall. Fifteen quartets, including including two female groups, will participate in a singing competition competition scheduled between' 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. Following the contest, a one hour concert will feature Oshawa's own Horseless Carriagemen Chorus and the top finalist ouartets. A feature of tne afternoon will be a massed chorus of all participants and should number over one hundred voices. Other activities scheduled scheduled for the quartets include a coaching and craft seminar seminar in the morning, and an evening of fellowship, with, of course, a lot more singing. The Oshawa Centre has plans to set up a special viewing area with up to 250 seats. Quartets are travelling from as far as London, St: Catharines, Trenton and Seaforth. Durham and Metro Metro chapters will also be represented represented and it is expected that all seats will be filled for this musical experience. • Seniors Meeting Bowmanville Senior Citizens Citizens met at the. Richard Walsh, the pastor. ; Obituary ; - Rongna Bromley , Eight days after she had suffered a severe stroke. Rongna (Ness) Bromley died in Memorial Hospital, Bowmanville Bowmanville on January 15th, 1991. She was 87. She was born in Oslo, Norway, on August 17th, 1903, and her parents were John and Pauline Ness. They came to Canada in 1906 and settled in the Banff, Alberta area where her father worked in the CPR coal mine developments developments and for 40 years was a CPR Police Sergeant, his vocation taking him and his family to many other centres in Canada. Rongna was married to Edward Charles Bromley, 55 years ago, on May 2nd, 1925. He predeceased her in 1980. In 1988, she came east to live with her nephew, Ken Bromley and his wife Marilyn Marilyn in Bowmanville where she attended St. John's Anglican Anglican Church. Earlier, she had attended a, Lutheran Church in Victoria, B.C. Rongna is survived by two sisters, Jeannie Bessette, Bessette, Burbank, California and Nellie Capel, Banff, Alberta; Alberta; two brothers, Henry Ness, Banff, and John Ness, Calgary, also a number of nieces and nephews, both in western and eastern Canada.
