I Dutchman Atoms Enter Playoffs On Tuesday, Feb. 26, the Flying Dutchman Atom "CC" Toros played their first playoff game in the quarterfinals quarterfinals against Peterborough "A" team. The game was anything but pretty as Peterborough used a lot of stick work on the Toros and payed for it dearly as they scored two powerplay goals enroute to a 5-3 win. Chris Baumhauer, Erik Griffin, Steve Ewles and Mike Leipsig played a great defensive game along with goalie John Marco Can- nito. Nicky Zdravkovski opened the scoring. Peterborough Peterborough tied the game, but Craig Sabine scored on a rebound rebound after a shot by Niki De Freitas. With the game tied at two, Jason Lange hit the net followed by Richard Aasen's goal assisted by Steve Ewles for a 4-2 lead. With a minute and a half left in the game, Peterborough Peterborough narrowed the margin. Steve Ewles, Chris Baumhauer, Erik Griffin and Mike Leipsig played an exceptionally great game. Up front, Jason Lange, Brent Stockman, Niki De Freitas and Craig Sabine had good chances. Richard Aasen, Nicky Zdravkovski, Mike Maynard, and Chris McKenzie worked very hard. This is a proud team, and when the going gets tough the boys play together. Trainer George Pithie did an excellent job with the boys and coach Mike De Freitas hopes that he will continue teaching hockey in years to come. Both teams played hard, the action was end-to-end. The game was scoreless until the third period, period, when Nathan Stout scored on a pass from Martin Martin Frampton. Bowmanville, March 13,1991 15 Mr. Sub Downs Oshawa bv! ida\ Young Drivers had a busy week with two games Feb. 27 and Feb. 28. The first game was with Sport Shop in Newcastle Arena. Young Drivers scored first with an unassisted goal by Robert Graham. Sport Shop replied with two goals scored unassited by Allan Robb. Young Drivers offence kicked into high gear with another unassisted goal by Robert Graham and another by Brandon Klawitter. Late in the second Robert Graham Graham got his third goal for the hat-trick assisted by .Phil Hopkins. In the third period Young Drivers nailed clown another win with two more goals by Robert Graham with assists from Allan Barnes and Brad Shultz. Young Drivers defence defence played solid and goal- tender Chris Layton played his angles properly and stood-up well. The final score: Young Drivers 6; Sport Shop 2. The next night Young Drivers faced-off against All Canadian in a thrilling match-up. Young Drivers goal tender Ryan McKnight made his debut making many good saves. Young Drivers started the scoring with Robert Graham finding the mark unassisted twice in the first period. All Canadian struck back with a goal by John Black assisted by Ian Bayes with three seconds to go in the first period. In the second period, Young Drivers Robert Graham Graham knotched his third unassisted unassisted goal for the natural hat-trick. All Canadian came roaring back with two unassisted goals. One from Jason Charoneau and the other from Luke Denison. The third period opened up even more into an end to end scoring contest by both teams. Young Drivers Brandon Brandon Klawitter scored with an assist by Brad Schultz. Seconds later All Canadians Jason Charboneau knotched his second unassisted goal. Young Drivers Robert Graham Graham scored with assists from Allan Barnes and Phil Hopkins then Robert scored his fifth of the game assisted from Allan Barnes. All Canadians Canadians showed a lot of character coming back to tie with a goal by John Black and a goal by Luke Denison with assists from Ryan Preston Preston and Jenifer Cowan. In two games Robert Graham scored ten goals. Both Young Drivers and All Canadian Canadian put on a great show tying 6-6. Mike Kris Mr. with Friday, March 1 Mr. Sub defeated Centennial (Oshawa) 3-2. Despite the loss, the players for Mr. Sub worked hard to limit Lange's scoring chances. Sunday March 10, Mr. Sub worked hard for a 4-1 league game win against Cutting Post. Mr. Sub pounded the Cutting Post goalie in period one to secure secure a 3-0 lead going into period period two. Guest commenced the scoring at 13:57 with Krummenacher and Thornhill Thornhill assisting. Guest earned his second goal with James and Krummenacher helping out. Ben Medd came up"with the third goal of the game at 0:02 in period one. Guest assisted. assisted. Jacob Gorski scored for Cutting Post in the second period.
