Not only was this a joint meeting, but also an Area Contest, five of the six clubs in Area 16 participated participated in the Canada Day Speaking contest. News Durham Skills Challenge by Brandon Krezanowski This is the first year Bowmanville Bowmanville High School was invited to the Durham Skills Challenge, The competition was at Harwood Secondary School on Saturday April 20, held over to Monday along with the banquet and awards. The students representing representing bur school were: Jason Jason Bagnell, Bruce Bryant, Stephen Leetooze, Jeff Stapleton, Stapleton, Mike Thang, Curt Winter and Aaron Zabud- sky. Special mention goes to Jason Bowen who received the gold medal in residential wiring, and Brad Simcock who took the silver medal in welding. All of the students participated well and learned a great deal • from this experience. OBITUARY John Michael Luffman A dedicated Legion member member and well known in Bowmanville, Bowmanville, John Michael Luff- man, died on Friday, March 8, 1991 at his home in Bowmanville. Bowmanville. In this 47th year, he had struggled bravely with cancer for nine months. Son of Lilia Luffman, and the late Leslie Luffman, he had attended Central Public School, and was a life long resident of Bowmanville. He was an associate member of Branch 178, Royal Canadian Legion. Left to mourn his passing arc his mother, sisters June Clark and Leslie (Lee) McDonald, two nephews, three nieces and best friend Cecile Bowers and brother- in-law Jim McDonald. A Legion service was held on Sunday at the Morris Funeral Funeral Chapel, Bowmanville, with funeral services on Monday. Floral tributes were received received from many clubs of which he was a member, from the Bowmanville Mens' softball team and donations to the Canadian Cancer Fund were received.
