He was being a little little careless and fell in. Fortunately, Fortunately, there was a gentleman gentleman also fishing nearby and he saved the lad from a-near tragedy. The boy is just fine, but definitely shaken up. Please, when near the water, water, use some precautions. Watch your footing when walking or climbing about. You should always use the buddy system, accidents can happen, even to you. On Monday, April 22nd, the Cubs had their weekly meeting. Several of the White-Tail Beavers and Lightning were visiting the Cubs. The Cubs showed the Beavers how to make backpacks backpacks out of garbage bags, string and four stones. How imaginative! The Beavers were able to teach the Cubs a new game. The White- Tails will be coming up to Cubs in a ceremony held on May 22nd. On May 6th the Cubs are planning a cleanup cleanup in designated areas of Hampton. On Wednesday April 24, in the morning, a dozen ladies sweated it out at their last exercise class. We thanked our Y.W.C.A. instructor, Betty. Afterwards, Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a healthy snack of fruits, crackers, cheese and a fabulous fabulous yogurt dip. Our thanks to Marilyn Burns and Janis Johnson for their hard work in organizing the classes to help us keep fit. New classes will begin again in September. September. Later in the day, the Beavers Beavers had their weekly meeting meeting at the Maple Grove United Church. The meeting was about the environment and how to care for it. Bill Hockett from Hydro was the speaker .The boys had a nice time. There will be registration registration for new Beavers in September. September. It is suggested that any boys thinking of joining should come out to a meeting meeting this May and check it out. Also there is a great need for leaders. A bit of training is required, which is provided, so please let them know now. You can contact Wendy Harris at 263-2979. Also on Wednesday, the Euchre Card Party met at the C.E. wing of the Church. Dave Hall was the big winner winner with 102! He also had the Most Lone Hands with' six. George Gilroy was second second with 87. A close third with 86 was Alma Lang- maid. Tied for fourth was Ruby and Barb Cochrane with 84. The Most Honest Player was Doris Schofield. Draw winners were John Kuyer, Don Renton, Carl Ferguson and Harvey Yel- lowlees. This past weekend the Quinte Region held a Scouting Scouting Operation Alert Competition Competition Camp. Whoo, that is a mouth full! Guide leader Elizabeth Bateman and Beaver Beaver leader Barb Pokorski were there. Also Mark Pokorski, Pokorski, Rob and Dan Jones and Scout Assistant Rick Brailfford were present. The camp was held at Ferris Provincial Provincial Park near Campbell- ford. Thank goodness the weather was nice for them. The folks were put through some tough test of their skills. They had to make a bridge ana did the Blind Man's Walk to name a few. Everyone had a good time. On Sunday tne Board of Stewards haa their monthly meeting, It was decided to have a Gigantic Yard Sale on June 8th. They have recently completed stories stories of their own and have obtained "publishers" to put their books together. The publishers are grade 11 students in Patricia Cooper's creative writing class at Bowmanville High School. Students Finish High in Mathematics Contest ing first in their grades at St. Stephen's High School in the Canadian Mathematics Competition. Thirty-eight students in total competed from the high school. They were among 60,748 students entered in the contest, administered annually by the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo. Christine was the top grade 9 student at the school while Dan placed first in grade 10. Sean Bal, absent from the photo, placed first in grade 11. From the Principal: Wednesday, May 8th is the final meeting of the Clarke High School Parents Association. The purpose of the meeting is to plan next years program. All parents are invited to attend. Education is changing changing fast and will continue to change rapidly over the next few years and The Parents Association is one way for parents to stay informed about changes in education. Not only is this association a way to stay informed but it is also a way for parents to discuss education and have a say in the education plans and policies of Clarke High School and thus a direct say in the education of their children and the children of the community. The education of students will be enhanced if both parents parents and school work together, together, this association is an excellent excellent opportunity for all parents influencing the education education of their children. We hope to see many parents parents at the meeting on Wednesday, May 8tn at Clarke High School at 7:00 p.m. At Clarke High School we have students who require individualized tutoring. These students have special needs in Math and English and are having difficulty making progress in classes where they cannot receive the attention they require. Language difficulties with students who have recently recently immigrated to Canada Canada present a real challenge. Clarke is looking for concerned concerned citizens who have a little time to spare and who would be willing to lend a hand to help a student.
