In one instance, it made a difference in stopping a sure goal by the visitors from Dunbarton (Pickering). Playing on a field that was more suitable for mud bogging races, the Redmen dropped a 3-1 decision to the traditionally strong Dunbarton Dunbarton club. Dunbarton 3 Redmen 1 The, Redmen are still without a win this season in three attempts after losing a 2-1 heartbreaker with three seconds left to Anderson (Whitby), and playing to a 1- 1 draw with Central (Oshawa). With a schedule of only four games, the Redmen have only one chance remaining remaining to gain a victory this season. That opportunity opportunity will come this Friday when they travel to McLaughlin (Oshawa). Despite the loss, coach Morris was pleased with the effort his club came up with. "I'm really pleased with the way we played today. Our record may not look it, but we are a strong team." "Last year we lost 9-0 to this same team, so I'm really impressed with our game to day." Dunbarton got off the mark with two quick goals at the midway mark of the first half. Bowmanville's Theresa Wyatt cut the margin margin in half when she hustled in and stripped the Dunbarton Dunbarton goalie of the ball and scored into an open net. Dunbarton regained their two-goal lead late in the half on a deflection that eluded Bowmanville goalkeeper Sarah Sarah Couch. The second half was played evenly, with the best opportunity belonging to Dunbarton. But the elements, elements, or as Bowmanville would like to think, home field advantage prevented another goal. After a scramble in the Bowmanville crease, the ball was drilled along the ground by a Dunbarton forward. The shot was past, Couch and heading into the Bowmanville Bowmanville net when it came to an abrupt halt on the goal line in the middle of a huge puddle. With only one game remaining, remaining, the Redmen are in jeopardy of not reaching the S ofTs. To Qualify, they need some nelp from the other teams in the league. "At this point, if we can get a wild card spot for the S layoffs I'll be happy," said lorris. "This was the only game where I knew we would have trouble." "One of our problems has been getting the whole team TIRE SALES INC. 576-1220 KUMHO STEEL BELTED RADIAL 781 ALL SEASON 299 Dean Ave., Oshawa Fran Gravener (right), of Bowmanville High School, chases down a loose ball with a player from Dunbarton (Pickering) during a senior girls' soccer game in Bowmanville last Tuesday. Bowmanville fell behind early in the first half and couldn't recover. The visitors left town with a hard-fought 3-1 victory. out at once for practice. If we had a longer schedule and better playing conditions, conditions, it would have made a difference this year." A highlight for the team this year came indoors instead instead of outdoors. Playing at the York University University Canadian Indoor Sports tournament, they were selected as the most sportsmanlike team. It was the second year in a row that Bowmanville was chosen chosen for the : àSVàrd in the tournament that involves 48 teams. ■ ■ 'V "We played well, but we have a good time arid play fairly," said Morris, adding "we actually came close to reaching the final 12."
