I'm sick of paying through the nose for choosing to smoke. I'm sick of being publicly publicly scorned. I'm sick of having having to stand outside to enjoy a cigarette. And finally, I'm sick of being dictated to. Wake up people. Just stop and give some thought to what will happen if we are all forced to give up smoking. Where do you think all the revenue, gener-. ated by smokers, is going to come from? If everyone in Canada said "uncle" and gave up their habit, I shudder shudder to think what the cost of gasoline and alcohol will be. Be realistic. The government government would have to recoup the money from somewhere. Guess wnat, non smokers?! You're next in line. The only thing not taxed to death now is our everyday food staples. At the current rate of our government's desperate reach for taxes, it probably won't be long before they tax our bread and butter. It's time for non- smokers to change their attitude toward toward smokers. We are not low lifes, we are not criminals criminals and we are not purposely purposely trying to make your life liserable. people. should miserable. We are just like you, who have the right to choose whether we want to smoke or not. Now, before all you non- smokers get your hackles up, let me explain, I understand understand that .you do not; wish to breathe jour secondhand smoke, v I Won't blame or scorn you fir that. It's your right; your choice. Where is mine? I have to laugh when I enter a restaurant and see smokers and non-smokers sitting, sidé by side, divided only by that invisible line that our government states has to be there. Then, I think how sad it is to see patients patients in hospitals ( Who in most cases DO NOT CHOOSE TO BE THERE), have to drag I.V. stands, etc. to go outside to have a cigarette. cigarette. There is a solution to the problem. Providing well ventilated, ventilated, filtered areas for smokers is a feasible solution. solution. The revenue gained from the price of cigarettes could easily pay for this. Save the money spent' on stupid, moronic advertising and use it to educate our children on the hazards of smoking. There will still be plenty of money left to fill the government coffers. I, for one, would love to make the government accountable for all the revenue gained from cigarettes. How much is wasted on trying to convince convince us that we shouldn't smoke? We are not children. Stop trying to force us to quit by adding more and more tax to cigarettes. Let it be our choice. We pay dearly for our habit, but enough is too much. Leave us alone! And for all you non- smokers, heed my warning. You are next. Peacefully puffing, Jeannine Winter. That's the sort of event which is taking place at the Bowmanville Seventh Day Adventist Church. Large quantities of children's and adults' clothing, along with household items and other miscellaneous miscellaneous goods are being given away free to anyone who needs them. And, as can be seen from the tables in this photo, the selection is huge. The clothes were accumulated thanks to the generosity of persons who have made donations to the church throughout ths* past year. The church's "open door" project took place all last week and has been extended until Thursday of this week. Some of the volunteers responsible for the project are shown above. They are: Ruth Jackman! leader; James Piggott; Joyce Piggott, assistant leader-, Joy Wirsz; Veronica Hall; Cynthia Ramlal; Helen Thorne; and Laurence Jerome. * 5 PIECE SOLID OAK! SOLID VALUE!
